For those of you who have headers are they worth it? Is it worth the headache of an install for minimal gains? Are the gains better than I have been reading about. It seems that most the posts about headers on a 4.6 are for the 2v not the 4v.

i think everyone is gonna say hands down, that you need them on any performance engine, and they are one of the first steps to take. but you know what i would like to see? a full engine build, with aluminum heads, intake, cam, ported, polished... the works. im talkin a 400-500hp motor. then i would like to see the dyno sheets with stock headers, cast manifolds, shortys, and long tubes. just to show how much stock headers would hold you back if you were to build a nasty motor and not have em.
what does everyone have to say, looking at it from that angle?
not how much you will gain with them
but how much you lose without them.
alot of people with diy junkyard TT setups run factory headers, and go 11's no prob.

You pretty much have to run factory headers for a turbo setup for the most part.

For our cars Longtubes have the best gains in both low end and midrange20+ rwhp over stock. Granted both shorties and longtubes pretty much have the same peak gains, but LT's blow the shorties away in the low to mid ranges.

Headers are a must. I'm sure i have read MM&FF mag articles where they show good gains from headers. on a average engine you will make 20 hp. headers are one of those things that everyone needs. it also makes for much better sounding exhaust.

Hooker headers

Do full exhaust and tune and you should see good gains.
