Are quad shocks necessary?

I am currently running 245/45/17's on 17x9 cobra r rims on all four corners. When I purchased the tires I originally wanted to run a 275/40/17 on the rear and a 255/40/17 up front but I ran into a problem... The rear tire wouldn't come close to fitting because of interference from the rear quad shocks.

A buddy of mine yanked his and purchased some lower rear control arms to run a bigger tire.

My question(s) is, Are my quad shocks necessary or can I ditch them for fatter tires? What do they actually do?

they dampen wheel hop. if you get hop, some aftermarket arm(s) should take care of it.

i dont have my quad shocks on, and i used to get wheel hop w/ my pony rims, but not w/ the cobra R's i dunno why - maybe it was my tires

Paul the reason you don't have wheel hop anymore is because the cobra rims are heavier.

If you use an aftermarket control arm then you won't need the quads

try reversing the shock so the skinny end is toward the rear.

i reversed mine and it fit ... but i ran into a problem with my tires hitting my exhaust so i had to bend the hanger and move it over

thanks for the help guys. Ill probably ditch them and install some maximum motorsports arms. That 275/40/17 is gonna look mean!
