are the aod's in all ford vehicles the same?

they are not the same, tailshafts for sure are different (which means the output shaft is diff as well) as far as the parts your looking for??? not too sure.

also some have a computer on the tranny, vs. the old cable AOD...

AOD's in (mostly) crown vics, town cars, and some
light trucks have a 1" longer tailshaft & housing.
The T-Bird stuff should be the same as the Stang
incl the throttle valve cable and throttle cable at
least if the TBird is a V8, you'd have to measure
length if it's a V6.

Some people have been able just to switch the
outer tailshaft housing without messing with the
shaft & have had no problems with their existing
driveshaft for length.

Also, AOD's other than Mustangs have a lower rpm
governor, which you can access by removing the
tailshaft housing.

Also there are some minor differences in the valve
bodies which can be cured by a decent shift kit
like www.becontrols.com (Baumann) which is
good to do anyway.

The ones without a throttle valve cable are the
electronic versions like AOD/E and 4R70W.

The throttle valve cables for V8 cars that have a
similar intake and throttle body setup should
all be the same length, as should the converter
cover plate.
