Are there any center console delete kits for a 5.0?

I was just wondering if there are any console delete kits out there for a 5.0? i would be cool to have one like 60's style. Only the shifter in the middle and only the console part for the radio. Anybody have any ideas?

I've never seen on from Ford or the aftermarket. So, unless you're really good with plastic and don't mind using plastic repair epoxy, sanding it down, more epoxy, more sanding, and then painting, you're out of luck.

I've never seen any kits. I don't think it would be too difficult to a job. Like ss93Cobra said, there will be some cutting and sanding involved and you may need a new carpet...depending on how well the holes around the e-brake and shifter were cut.

This is an interesting topic. I would think you would need some extra carpet as I don't think there is any under the center console, maybe I'm wrong though. You would need some kind of cover for your e-brake handle, don't want to leave it bare. Let us know if you decide to do, and how it turns out. Pics too please.

If I remember correctly there is carpeting under the center console, but your right you will need some sort of boot to cover the e-brak, not to mention what will you do with all the wires under there...and the mirror control???? at least my 88 gt has that stuff.

as close as I would go to "no console" would be the 1990 console delete found in early 1990 model year production cars. It doesn't have the tape box thing, but covers up the e-brake and wires. You can definately do what you want, but I think it would look kinda goofy w/ the e-brake sticking up and all. Unless you're really good, using plastic would probably look like a chop job.

There is an option. But it is EXTREMELY hard to come by. I mean it's almost impossible to find. In the late 70's early 80's the Fairmont (the first FOX body) had a base model with a stick shift that had a little consolette the bolted to the floor around the shifter. That was it no other console parts. The parkign brake was under the dash.

The carpet in the Mustang is full covering. So that is not an issue. If you found the mini console from a Fairmont, you would only have to fab something to cover the parking brake lever pivot in the Mustang.

I found a Fairmont right before it got crushed with this little console and I pulled it out, so I have one. I may never use it, but they are so rare I couldn't let it get crushed. I paid $8 bucks for it. If you are in the West you may be able to find one pretty easily. They sodl a lot of Fairmonts.

even if you did chop it up urself and did all that epoxy **** you still wouldnt have the texture of the original plastic. it may not be noticable to some but when you drive ur car everyday u start to get annoyed by it

if you dont want ur radio it would be alot easier you could remove the hole piece an just have to fab up sumthing for the A/C bezel. i think it would look lot nicer too. but thats just me

Earlier Mustangs (79ish for a few years at least) were available without a center console. The mini-cnsole wouldn't bolt up to the 87-93 dash, but they did come with a seperate little e-brake boot that may help if you figure something out for the console. There's one in a junkyard around here, and I thought about it -- but went with the 90-delete plate instead.

If anyone has one of these or can get one, I'd definitely, very seriously, consider buying it if you wanted to sell it.

My 86 coupe was originally a 4 cyl car and it has no console.It just has the shifter and the e-brake.They are really not that un-common at the wreckers with the four-eyes.

There was a car in 5.0 mag about 6 months ago that had no center it looked pretty good. I forgot how he did it though, i'll see if i can find the article

I can't se it being that tough to replace the carpet with a new premolded one then find a nice looking shifter boot and e-brake handle boot to finish it up. You usually have to cut your own holes in the premolded carpets anyway and I stumble over some pretty good looking boots on the net all the time. Some with billet surrounds even.
