I've heard of short tubes and long tube headers, but with those dont you have to buy a special mid pipe? are there any headers i can buy to increase the sound of my exhaust and the horse power of my car that will fit my current setup?

On long tube headers you need shorter H or X pipe. Plus i hear you cant get the transmission off if you had to change a clutch. You would have to take a header off.

Right... well, i guess what i'm asking is, are the stock headers "shorty" headers? And if so, what SHorty headers would i go with to get what i'm looking for (if they're even worth it to go with over stock)

Yes they are. I would go with some JBA if you can afford it or new BBK Shortys.

shorty headers provide a minimal HP gain. go LT's or nothing, unless you are planning on getting a blower. when you add the forced air it makes less of a HP difference. imo, get gears with that money. you'll see more perfomance gain with them

Hmm thats not a bad price. I thought they were $1030 for my car for shorty headers. I got my JBA shorty headers and 70mm T/B for FREE from one of my friends who only put 5k miles on the parts though I will be installing them this weekend.

JBA shorty headers are the best SHORTY headers to go with that produce the MOST hp. For clarification, L/T Headers of course produce more hp than shorties, but I said the best shorty headers are JBA.

EDIT:
You can also go with an SLP X Pipe. SLPs pipe is fully adjustable and you can remove and add the catalytic converters as you please. So when you switch from the stock shorty headers to L/T headers, you dont need to remove the midpipe for a smaller or latger one.

BBK's new shorty headers will work with your X-pipe.
