Looking at possibly buying a set of used Comp cams with limiters. Was planning on going to Brenspeed in spring to purchase / install but I found guy online selling same set used. He didn't mention how many miles they were used so I PM'd him.

Question is, should there be any concerns over buying and installing a used cam? I didn't know if it was similiar to gearing, once installed, don't really want to put a used set in.

Sorry if that's a noob question but if this guy is legit and there isn't any issues with buying them used, it could save me $229.....

Thanks all,

Brian

( it's the Comp Cams 127020 )

Not worth the savings in my opinion. There's some things I'll buy used. Engine internals and crap like that? Forget about it. Why are they really getting rid of them? You never really know. And if you have to ask, you don't have the knowledge to properly inspect them (don't worry, neither would I). Saving money is nice, but if it blows your block, it won't save you anything.

the other side of that coin is if you buy new, once you install them and spin the engine once, your new cams are used.

I know what you're saying about the history. It's something you never know. I saw a pic of some FRPP gears a guy bought online. There was a huge chunk out of the pinion gear, so not everyone tells the truth when you ask about why they were bought, installed then sold.

If I was going to buy used cams I'd want to buy them from a shop that installs and could check them for condition. Or have the cams in question checked out at least. A bent cam is hard to detect, until you get it installed and it tears up the head.
