well this figures. the first one i ever did went perfect when i did the aode-t5 swap, i put vibrantredgt's in perfect, and now i get to mine and i trash the bearing because it wont go all the way in. it went in until about 1/8" was between the lip of the bearing and the crank. does anyone know if there is a special procedure for putting in a pilot bearing if the crank is forged? the reason i ask is that the 2 i did perfectly and easily were cast cranks and the one on my new motor is forged. anyone?

it will come out easy as soon as i can get the tool to remove it. all my motivation went down the drain with this mishap though. i forsee an extra few months of the motor sitting and collecting dust now.....

Maybe try another bearing. The production tolerance may have been too tight on that one. Maybe another one will fit better. Or maybe they gave you the wrong bearing. Is it a new bearing, or the one from your old crank or something?

it was a new bearing. the part number was correct. the aggrivating part is that the pilot bearing isnt a part that the dealership has in stock.

I just did the same damn thing! I am putting a pilot bearing into a 4340 forged Eagle crank and it didnt go in all the way! It had about .100 sticking out and it was fully seated. I guess this is a Eagle or forged crank problem?

I think there are 2 options:

1) Let it stick out and hope its OK.

2) Mill the (crank side) end off the bearing to make it fully seat.

Anyone solve this problem?

i have an eagle crank and had the same situation, the pilot bearing stuck out ever so slightly. but everytnig else is fine as far as the tranny fully seating, clutch engagement. sorry i couldn't answer your question sooner but when u install the new one make sure its in as far as it will go and then continue the rest of installation as you normally would.

thanks 95cobra. i am picking up the new bearing today and hopefully ups will bring the pilot bearing tool tomorrow. nobody had it locally so i ordered it from harbor freight. hopefully all goes well from here on out.
