You can usually pick up some PI heads and cams set off classifieds.stangnet.com for about $400 plus shipping. Awesome deal for getting the power of the 99-04 in a 96-98. Other than that, I don't know for a 4.6.

The only downside with moving to PI (if you consider it a negative) is having to use Premium fuel. I'm not bashing, just making both sides known.

I'd go with some good ol' PI heads/cams Nothin wrong with runnin higher octane gas, I do it all the time because of my timing.. wouldn't have it any other way either

that's cool if you can't make it man, you gotta do what you gotta do.. wouldn't wanna make her mad on her b-day

You don't have to run premium fuel and that isn't much of a difference anyways. You get a bit more compression. Different piston design accounts for that. Doing some bowl work on the combustion chambers can lower that compression.

Yes dollar for dollar the 5.0L is superior but this is the new age and the 4.6L is coming up very quickly, especially in the last couple years. Directly related to supply and demand.

maybe supply and demand will change the price of their parts also. You would think that 9 years of the 4.6 would bring down the parts price. I know the 5.0was made longer but still, you can get a set of headers and a cold air kit for the 5.0 for the same price you can get a set of headers for the 4.6. SAD!

and parts for parts, they are almost the same performance gains

It will be a godsend for the 4.6 aftermarket to cool down and become even more affordable.

The 302 based engine has been around since the 60's. We need to allow some time. If you just look at the prices of the 4.6L a few years ago compared to today you would see a nice decrease in price. Supply and demand will take control...because it is currently. The more 4.6L's there are the more demand there is for parts which means more purchases which means less pay.

It's dropping...

I don't see the 302 market ever disappearing, however. Even though the 4.6 is the current poster child, I see efficiencies increasing and this motor eventually being dumped for a new, better alternative.

The 4.6L is better at effiecency than your giving it credit. The 4.6L "modular" was an engine based on swapping parts with other "modular" engines in the Ford industry. Therefore creating effeicency.

The 4.6L from a performance standpoint is more effecient as well giving off more power and better gas mileage. That is comparing a 4.6L that had been in production cars only since 1996 (in mustangs)and comparing it to a 5.0L in it's prime (1995) in the mustangs. So were comparing an engine from 1999 (been in the stang for 3 years) comparing to the 5.0L (302) that has been in the stangs since the 60's.

Sounds like the sohc (an dohc) 4.6L (16v or 32v) are pretty effecient to me

No, I was not doggin' what it is; I merely stated that I forsee more improvements in the ability to harness power from smaller units. That is the trend in modern day engineering it seems: more from less.

Old traditions die hard and the 5.0 will still hold its glory in rebuilds and crate applications. The 4.6, I don't think, will become a legend. The fickle engineering traits of today's world won't allow it. I seriously think something smaller but with more power might replace it. Check out their new 3.5 liter v6. Sports 250 hp and I think it has 300 torque. Not bad numbers at all.

GNX ='s x 4.6L

That is one of my all time dream cars. Turbo 6 ='s

Well the 4.6L might not be known as a "late great" later on, if it doesn't have the chance of being around for a while due to expanding technology, but that shouldn't be a negative towards the modular world. Just a missed opportunity...

Stands for Roller Rockers.. and I am not technical enough to understand what they change on the engine. I just know they are good so I bought them. lol

Just like the LT1 is still a great engine compared to the LS1. I think the only differences there is aluminum block vs iron. NOT sure though.
