alright guys...
I put a new thermostat in my car and it didn't help, it still runs around the L in normal on the gauge, but when it gets there, i can lay my hand on the intake and valve covers and it doesn't feel hot. When it overheated today it blew anti-freeze everywhere.. i dont know whats going on.. i thought that it might be the sending unit BUT why would it be blowing antifreeze everywhere.. if you have any information would you please feel me in

Like tangerine said, my old car also done that and I replaced everything but the radiator cap.. and low and behold that was the problem. It was not holding enough pressure.

Not likely the sending unit if your actually blowing antifreeze.

Their is a very good chance it is the radiator cap seal. It is supposed to be good up to 16psi or so I believe stock.

T-stat springs faces towards the intake.

You might want to burp the system to get any possible air bubbles out of the system.

I have found in the couple times I have replaced my t-stat that the first couple driving experiences after the new t-stat, it seems to get "sticky"...and it almost has to break-in:shrug: Once that wax in the actuator heats up it'll open right up as long as there isn't an air pocket. You'll get it:)

Did you ever figure out what went wrong with your heating/cooling issues? Was it the t-stat?

Alright guys,
I drove the car but it heats up so fast im scared to drive it too far... i put a new thermostat... radiator cap... sending unit... in it and its still climbs like crazy and im losing fluid somewhere... there is antifreeze in my oil... could it be a valve guide? i have felt of the hoses before and after the t-stat and there is not a considerable amount of change in the temperature of them.. i dont understand and quite frankly its just pissin me off..

Not sure why you'd need the heater on high, but just make sure your climate controls are set to full heat (heater core open). In 10 minutes you should have reached full operating temp as well.

You idle the whole time? If so, you may not have burped it completely. During that time, you need to rev to 1500 to 2000 rpm to get the water pump the build substantial flow/pressure internally to kick the air out, else, coolant flows along the channels instead of occupying the entire channel and forcing air out.

U wrench it pull it whatever........Salvage or Junkyard.

Us old farts with 20+ year old stangs gotta find them somewhere.

Sorry about the overheating problem. My old Exploder did that. Waterpump was not leaking, at least on the outside. Had to flush the system, replace water pump and thermostat. :(

Yeah i got me stang.. Whats up Scootro how is the Cobra..Man i really did like ur car wish i could have bought it but i got my moms old stang about a week ago for 5700 so couldnt beat that... But it took forever to sell my dang truck..But now i got money left over and i can just play with this car and learn so its not that bad of a deal..

hey helty do you still have those springs for sale or did you already sale them?
Sorry bud, after a few offers I realized I wanted to keep them. They're going for $225+ and I got them for $125. Just going to keep them until I get some Bilstiens and C/C's.

Well I don't know officially yet because my car is still in the process of the rebuild. I never "cured" the problem before I pulled it. I do know the seal in my water pump was shot and it leaked water out as fast as you could pour it in:rolleyes: It appears that it would leak so fast when I would drive the coolant/water would leak out at the bottom weep hole...and we all know with no water/coolant there is nothing to cool.

To add to Tim's advice which was great by the way. To further burp the system you can tilt the car upwards with a jack underneath the car so air can escape out the radiator cap hole quicker. Just jack the driverside up so air will help escape...

I know on a cold morning it could take over 10 minutes before my car would warm up completely...and sometimes it takes more than one "burp"...

If your gonna get a t-stat I would suggest a Mr. Gasket or Motorcraft 180* T.

I wonder if you have some sort of blockage in the coolant passages? Is your radiator hoses collapsing? Particularly your lower hose?

If it is rising up quickly and actually overheating (signs are detonation under part-throttle)...water/coolant is being blocked and not even touching the intake into the block...

The idling rough could be coolant getting into the combustion chamber? Headgasket. Either way I don't see how a valve guide would allow you to lose coolant...

I'm just trying to throw out ideas...

I hear ya it's hard to sell used cars. Glad to hear you sold the truck! it's nice not to be in debt. The 93cobra is coming along I’m in the process of re-doing the stereo with Boston acoustics speakers also with 2 Boston 10inch subs. I've put in a sweet alarm with a pager and keyless entry. I'm done with the motor. it's got enough performance to make me smile when I drive her for now anyways. Keep on playing with ur new ride. you'll get that thing fast just takes money and time. All you need is a hand-held tuner(I recommend a Diablo) for that auto and gears is a good start.....:nice:

Hey guys, just in case you're interested..

There's a REALLY GOOD thread about N/A 4.6L's, along with blower/Nitrous info in the 4.6 Section on the forums.. Talks about what setups do what and how much hp and all that stuff..

And also talks about why you NEED a tune with nitrous and blowers with the 4.6L motors, what you don't need a tune with and some other good info.. it's a nice read :nice:
