Can someone explain some things... When it comes to rears I think I understand everything. But then whenever I start a new mod I found out I don't know as much as I think.

I want a strong 8.8 rear so here's what I'm gonna buy...

8.8 Housing
Superior 31 Spline Axles
Detroit EZ Locker
FRPP 4.10 Ring and Pinion

That is ALL I need right? I have never done anything like this and don't want to start something I can't finish. Someone please help me out.

You'll probably want new bearings throughout the rear end, as well as axle seals and a new crush collar.

you will need a master bearing kit,axle shaft bearings,axle shaft seal and speedo gear. and click on links below and read helpful info....

get the stuff these guys said and just take your time and measure everything right, and make sure you crush the crush collar untill you have about 26 in/lb worth of preload. ( you measure this by taking a tourqe wrench and when it takes about 26 or so in/lb to turn the pinion then stop.)

I just read EVERYTHING in that first link. Apparently the only tools I'll need are...

Bearing separator and puller
Dial caliper
Inch/pound torque wrench
Foot/pound torque wrench
1” dial indicator with magnetic base
Female Torx E-8 socket
Impact Wrench
½” breaker bar
12mm 12 point socket

Does Advance Auto let ya borrow INCH/lb and FOOT/lb torque wrenches?

Just reread something and noticed in the write-up the guy says when using FORD MOTORSPORT (FRPP?) gears you can use the MHD method. Master Housing Dimension. Anyway, my question is, what if I'm NOT using a Ford made differential (DETROIT LOCKER) and using Motive 4.10s?

I don't want to have to buy that $200 tool that dude was talking about just because I can't use the MHD method.

Yea I had never heard of the MHD method, sounds like a feesable way of doing things. Is this a fairly accurate way of installing gears assuming they are still the stock gears? Seems really easy and should work but it is it recomended?

Also in the first link it states the MHD distance as 4.415, but in the second link it is stated as 4.4199, which one is the correct reading, although it is a very small discrepency.

Yeah that's wierd. I just want to do this thing and get it over with. It will be one helluva weekend project. For me it'll be from Saturday AM to Sunday PM because usually something goes wrong and then HOURS later it just clicks.
