Astro 5speed

When i broke a tooth off 3rd gear on my stock t-5 ,, the whole tooth broke off, not half the tooth or 1/4 off the tooth,, i would think if the problem was shaft flex, it would have broken part of the tooth,, I still have not read on here where someone had a problem with an Astro kit,, but im shure Atro has a limit too ,, just they hold up to thier ratings

Never had an Astro so I can't speak to their reliability or lack thereof. They seem cost-prohibitive though, considering what they go for vs. a TKO.

I have to congratulate you on forming your post though (not being a wise ass here). That was your first post so far that I understood without having to go back over it three times. Now (this part I am being a wise ass), if we could just get you to use periods. :D

I can tell you are the type that would have trouble understanding.

I can see the appeal over a TKO because it minimizes cost in swap parts. Other than the different spline count in the input, I believe it's pretty much bolt-in.

Meh, I got a bell housing off corral for 100 bucks and a slip yoke for 25 bucks. If you plan on upgrading the clutch any way that's moot. Parts are out there cheap you just have to look for them. Any c6 or T45 yoke will work, and they are everywhere.

I think I've said it before, but I can't/won't argue the used parts thing. I seem to lose my ass whenever I try to buy/sell used parts, and there is never anything good available locally. I hear success stories all the time from other people, but either I'm not lucky or patient enough to benefit from it myself.

I get you on the used parts thing. It's a bell housing in this case though.

What I was talking about before... I have difficulty justifying the cost of an Astro or G-Force when a TKO can be had for a little more. Beefing up a T5 leaves you with a beefed up T5. It generally has the same weaknesses it always had although the break point is moved up a little. I don't recall though, seeing any "I broke my TKO" threads.

Mine sheared half of the gear off, not just 1 tooth.. On my stocker.. I do not know what awaits me on the Gforce I broke..didn't crack it open yet

Troofs... Broken english and punctuation is difficult to decipher. I know this because I've spent a minute or two decoding a few posts (among other things). lol
Applause, Applause. English must be a second language for some people who post here. Deciphering electrical problems can be especially challenging.

I think if your hp/tq is in the range of the Astro A-5 you should at least consider it.

The Astro gear is on the left.

Everyone says "Astro T5 is great". Funny thing though, I have never seen any posts from someone who has an Astro T5 and has driven over 100,00 miles, powershifted when he felt like it and has had NO problems with busted gears or bad syncros. I can say that the Tremec 3550 I have has done all that and more with no broken gears or bad syncros

Prove me wrong and I'll get off my Tremec 3550/TKO500/TKO600 soapbox. And I mean a real 100,000 miles, no 5,000, 20.000 or even 50,000 miles - I want to hear about an honest full 100,000 miles

My friend broke a TKO 600, but to do it he had to screw up big time. Drag racing on slicks, 3400 + lbs, wind her up to 6K and dump the clutch. Normally not a problem unless you do like he did and launch in 3rd gear and not 1st gear! And in a 9 sec ride with the big grunt of a Kenne Bell supercharger providing 20 plus psi at launch. 3rd gear lasted about 1 foot . But it took a huge screw up to break that trans. It was not the Tremecs fault. Anyway, after that episode and after going through over $1500 a year in clutches, he went with a AOD and has never looked back.

I'm sure that, that upgrade alone is a vast improvement but it doesn't do anything about the shaft defection in the case.

So the AOD is holding up where a TKO 600 didn't? I only ask because AODs haven't been really been known to be exceptionally beefy either.

In all fairness, I did not say it was a stock AOD! That thing is built! And it has lasted 3 plus years with no issues.
