I added a full bottle of Friction Modifier to the 06 Stang's rear two weeks ago and. WA-LA................... Axle moan is gone...................... :nice: Looks like that's exactly what Ford left out of the rear gear lube................. Someone undoubtably thought it would save money, but ended up causing a problem instead.:notnice:

How does this affect the gear lube level in the axle housing? I've got an 07 with a moaning rear end....

Is it a moan when cornering at low speeds? Or a whine at highway speeds? Moan in cornering is the Traction Loc clutches slipping, letting the inside axle turn at a different speed than the outside axle.It sounds like two objects rubbing against each other. A whine at highway speeds would be gear related (ring and pinion)

I have the latter, a whine at highway speeds... Thing has less than 1000 miles on it... Do you think there is something wrong?

Yea, I'd at least check the oil level in the rear. Not the first time that was forgotten at the factory. And adding a 4oz bottle of friction modifier will not over fill it. I filled mine till the oil was coming back out the hole.

Ok, so today on the way home I REALLY paid attention to the noise. Cruising say with cruise control on, VERY LITTLE whine... However, I do notice a whine when accellerating slowly. I mean if i had any louder exhaust I may not even hear it...

Thoughts?

You can hear some whine as it's accellerating. I know mine does if I pay attention to it. 12,000 miles and no gear problem.

I'm starting to think it may be just fine. If it was a gear installation problem, I think that I'd hear it all the time and not just on acceleration. Right? Especially with my paranoid observation on my drive home from work today...
