I purchased a Rockfor Fosgate power Bd 1000 as well as a power 551X they have been working flawlessly for a while now....the other day i pulled out of my driveway with the radio at a normal level and went approx 1/4 mile and i noticed a burning smell i cut the car off and popped the trunk....my kicker solobaric L7 burned out. i pushed the cone in and out and i heard a cruching noise...i disconnected the sub. and removed the speaker leads off the amp. so i could still listen to the interior speakers.i turned the car back on and seconds later i smelled the burning smell again ...i cut the car back off and check the amp..i burned my hand on the heatsink on the amp.... so i know it had to have been the amp that burned up the sub.Im surpise because the fuse didnt pop.i yanked out wires and just left the power, ground and remote wire connected. I turned the key forward and the protction led started blinking and making a weird noise. I do not know what to do. I thought it could have been the ground wire because it sparked when i cut the amp on...i cleaned the surface where the wire was connected and made it nice and tight its still doing the same thing.each amp has its own ground wire and rem wire.In 5 years this is the only prob ive had with a RockFord Fosgate product...I always recommend and install this same setup in all my friends cars.

i have a 75 amp alt keeping up at 12.8 volts at max volume i need help!!!

Keep in mind I havent dabbled in car stereos for about 8 years and I am no expert but it may have just gotten too hot.Maybe those speakers cant take as much heat as the amp can.Id think if you had wiring problems the amp would burn up or at least blow the fuse.Sorry I cant help much but there are some peeps on here that know their car stereo $hit

What did you have running off the amp ? A sub and speakers ?

By the looks of it...sounds like you blew an amp my friend.

Pop the cover off the amp, usually held on by four screws or allan bolts. Look inside the amp, see if anythings burnt or if anything doesn't look right.

Was the bass on your radio turned up ? how about gain on the amp ? was that turned up ?

i bet you over loaded the amp
what ohm are the speakers?
are they dual voice coil?
some amps need a certain load like 4 ohm
load em down to 2 ohm and they over heat and stuff
check your load on the amp

Fosgate BD1000 will handle a 2 ohm load no problem. Makes max power at 2ohms. I have seen them run below that and no issues.

But it does sound like you blew an amp. I hate to say it (Die hard RF fan) The RF stuff they make now is garbage. Nothing like it used to be. I have since switched to Memphis, and for fun trying out Polk Subs

Did you have an inline fuse?

ive run that amp @ a 1 ohm load with out even warming up.. i switch back to a single sub ported box running @ 2 ohms ...the speaker wires werent touching .....i purchased this amp a while ago but i didnt install it till recently .... i email fosgate..they told me

"Sorry to hear about your amplifier and sub. I don't think your voltage had anything to do with that, it looks like one of those pieces failed and took the other with it. We recommend you contact us at 1-800-669-9899 so we can go over your set-up and get you warranty/repair information."

i have no idea where to look for my recipt..i cant even remember if i saved the recepit ..i dont want to tell them the wrong thing a screw myself out of getting my amp fixed or replaced
