I was wondering if just leaving the shifter on "D" is fine with the overdrive ON or is it nessecery to be turning off the OD? i ask because sometimes it's only turning like 1300-1400 RPM during cruising speeds, is this normal? in my stick car i try to keep the revs up to 2k when possible.

Leave it in drive with OD on. This will provide the best gas mileage. The transmission is smart enough to drop out of OD when necessary.

You want some clunk!?!? Go drive an 03/04 Cobra! There's so much freakin' drive-line slack it's not even funny....

It's your choice, Like mentioned above, it is designed to stay in od and run fine, and it will downshift when you get on it. I just shut off my od when I want to stay in higher rpm's...and go into boost!

i usually manual shift it. i never know when i'm going to run the hell out of it, and i can't stand to wait for downshift. i turn od off in town to hear the exhaust.

I never manually shift, however I do turn off O/D when I want more power and worse gas mileage.

Ive tried manual shift, not impressed. But you are correct, OD off = power at the expense of fuel economy.

The whole point for the OD Off button is so if you are going down a steep hill you can downshift a gear by just pushing a button so you dont ride your brakes. Manual Shifting an auto will mess it up.

come on dude. manual shifting is the same as leaving it in auto. i've been doing that since i've been driving mustangs. maybe 200,000 miles on 3 cars.

40,000+ miles on this very tranny

I used to turn OD off for city driving, but once I had the 4.10's put in i've just been leaving OD on.

90% of the time I turn OD off unless I’m on a long strait road or a highway. I have drive-line slack but I have learned how to drive her so that won't happen.

it won't downshift until the engine rpm's fall, but i use it to be in the right gear for acceleration. i chirp the rears on downshift.
