I want to convert my 90 auto to a manual. Found an 83 vert on C/L. Anyone see any problems with the year differences? Should be the same 79-93 right?

A lot of stuff is different.

Ideally, you want 1986+

Thanks, been searching all day for the answer, there is nothing out there saying what is interchangeable, just how to do's. So 86-93 is what I'm looking for.

Thanks again.

83 May be a 4-Speed

My 83 GLX Vert had a 4-speed top loader. Desirable enough but not a t-56

Just my .02

the 83 had a t5, but it was not a world class transmission. will fit, but not as strong as the world class tranny.

not to mention single hump crossmember, different exhaust hanger, reverse wiring harness is different, 10" clutch setup with smaller bellhousing.

try to get as "new" of a trans as you can, supposedly the 91 or 92 up t5's are a bit stronger. not sure if this or true or not, and i know its not by much (but if you can find for a similar price, its worth it), but i've seen this mentioned a few times, and it wouldnt hurt.

Late 89 and higher are rated at 300 ft-lbs. Late 92-later have a synchroed Reverse.
