Alright I just purchased a 99 Mustang GT and now I've noticed a leak. For the first week I had it i didn't notice anything till yesterday morning. I moved the car so I could take out my saleen and I noticed a couple of drops of Reddish fluid. So right away I thought my tranny was leaking. I got underneath the car and noticed that a black gasket/seal on the pan had some reddish liquid. Last night I placed a cardboard underneath and this morning i noticed a few drops (2-3). Now I tried to clean this black gasket/seal and noticed to be really loose. Is that normal? My next question is this going to be expensive? Last but not least I've checked the levels and they're fine so could this be a sign of a major problem? Please advise.

I don't know what you mean by "back gasket seal"....can you take a couple of pictures?

I'm at work right now so I can't take a pic at the moment. I meant to say Black gasket/seal because I don't know whether it's a seal or gasket. To me it would look to be like a cap that is located underneath the transmission pan. I'm guessing it would be considred a seal.

My auto tranny drips a few drops every day onto the garage floor under right about where the gear shifter is.

Yeah i would say the same. It's located in that area. I'm guessing yours is pinkish, reddish as well? Excuse the "ish" only way i know how to describe it.

its probally your trans pan gasket. its 14 bucks for one. autozone doesnt carry it, but ford dealer ships do.

my tailshaft used to leak on my old trans. those are common too i guess. they're not hard to fix either. it's probally not a problem, as long as the trans shifts good. the most expensive part of your fix will be buying the fluid.

Thanks Man. The trans shifts just fine and there's no real problem there. It's just the leak that had me worried. I just purchased it and I didn't want to get stuck with a bad mustang. I'll have my mechanic look at it if not I'll do it over the weekend. Thanks :nice:
