autometer converstion question for those who've done it

I want to get all electric units. which fuel level gauge and sender did you get? I see that there are 73-10 Ohm units and 240-33 Ohm units. Can somebody tell me which one I would want for a 1969 Mach 1? I had just replaced the sender with one from Mustangs Unlimited. Would I be able to use that or did you have to get a new one? Also, I am unsure what I need in addtion to the new tach? I have an aftermarket MSD ignition and distributor. Is there a particular sending unite/adapter or something in addtion that I might also need?

So to use a stock type sender, yowould want a gage kida like this:

When I picked out my gauges I remember that the Summit catalog said which fuel gauge was for which car/years, the one already listed looks right. The new gauges will come with sending units, I'd replace the one you already bought, I've had weird luck with using ones that didn't come with the gauges. Your MSD box should have a plug in for your tach. On a 6AL it is on the right side, I think. The tach will pick up the signal right from there. Make sure you use a good ground for the tach (and all the gauges), like the back of the head.

Not yet. I placed my order with Summit Friday and it shipped yesterday. I am going to try and use the stock sender. I have a brand new one inside my brand new gas tank plus a spare brand new sender sitting on the shelf as back up. I will let you know how it all worked out. In any event, I won't need a fuel gauge as I have found out that my car goes from "F" to "E" after only 2 hours of freeway driving. That is 20 gallons at $7.50 a gallon, every 120 minutes.

I used the same gauge with a new tank and sender. Works fine.

Wow, assuming that you are steady 60mph then thats a mile a minute. So 120 minutes would be 120 miles, so you are getting 6 mpg. Thats not normal for highway driving. City, yes but not highway. You must be running super rich or there is something dragging like the brakes.

I think it is rich but I won't know until my next tune. I am spitting a lot of black soot out of the pipes.

And on edit, the gauges will have to wait until Year One ships me my 6 gauge cluster. I ordered the cluster 1 week in advance of ordering the gauges. The gauges got here before the cluster ever shipped.

Must be nice . . . my 70-10 sending unit didn't work with my factory gauges on my falcon. It read 1/3 of a tank at full. Ended up getting a aftermarket gauge.
