Autometer Elite gauge controlling a fan?

Has anyone tried or does anyone know if you could use an Autometer Elite gauge, http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3951&sid=76 to control an electric fan? If it worked it could sure be handy. They Look like pretty impressive gauges, especially the tach.

I don't see why not use a relay to where when those contacts in the meter close that they close the coil side of the relay bringing the power to the fans

How much is that? From the instructions it looks like you can simply replace the factory water temp sensor with the NPT sending unit and then wire up the orange and blue output to a set of relays and then to the fan. My only concern is I don't think it has a soft start on it or a setting to kick on when the A/C clutch kicks on.

That will work to control a fan, but it's relatively primitive compared to pulse width modulation controllers that can ramp up and down the voltage to the fan to raise and lower its speed based on coolant temp. For $200, you can find a better controller. That gauge is cool, but it seems to be a jack of all trades/master of nothing kind of product.

10-4 buddy, I kinda had the same thought. Just thought I'd throw it past the experts.

That being said, what application would these gauges with said functions be useful for? The tach, I can see if one were to run an mcplate or florida50 setup would be kick ass. But otherwise what function could these gauges really serve?

I am considering getting one of these http://mc-machine.com/mcm_joom/content/view/13/27/ and then custom making my own autometer gauges, and if all im going to loose is the shift light tech on the elite gauges ill get the custom made and install a shiftlight.

It's a waste of alot of money if you ask me.
Oil pressure and water temp IMO are the important ones. It's not that hard to find a place to mount 2 gauges.
Then get yourself a mini shift lite and something to activate it.
