If you are installing an Autometer mechanical coolant temperature gauge (I installed the Phantom series) in a 2001-2004 Mustang GT, do yourself a favor and:

a) Do not install the sending unit in place of or in a T with the factory coolant temperature sending unit. The factory sending unit is required as it sends data to computer. Using a T to install the factory sending unit and Autometer unit in place of the factory sending unit will/could result in neither sending unit working properly. If yours do work properly, you are lucky, in the minority and will likely find this setup is not as accurate as you think.

b) Install the sending unit in the plugged 3/8" NPT hole in the driver's side of the block back by the tranny.

c) Order Autometer adapter #2275 to use with the Autometer sending unit. This adapter allows for proper installation of the sending unit in this location.

Thanks to the tech staff at Autometer for providing me with accurate answers. I now have both the mechanical engine coolant temperature gauge and mechanical oil pressure gauge installed and functioning properly. The oil pressure gauge was a breeze. The supplied adapter fits the spare hole on the oil filter housing so that, combined with an elbow, made for a nice, clean install.
