i got the supposed OEM replacement clutch for my 5.0 during my conversion from a c4...anyway the adjustment is way off and i was told by a buddy of mine that he tried it too and his cable just wouldnt allow for the adjustment and he burned it up after 4 days, now i have the same problem and was curious should i just have the local dealer pull it out and install another clutch such as the king cobra one, and take the pos autozone back for a refund???

If its the stock quadrant, i think you pull up on the pedal or soemthing to adjust it. Or do like most others do, change it with a billet one and get a firewall adjuster

I have been running the autozone stock replacement for 2 years, I put in a new one, but that was because I had to replace the flywheel and I figured "Since Im in there" but it looked fine, still had well over half the surface left after 30,000 miles.

it sounds like no matter what clutch you put in, you are gonna burn it up. get an aftermarket quadrant so you dont burn up your new one.

if you want to do it right, go with a Spec clutch. i personally would not use a parts store unit on a stang. the torque would likely kill it. i would talk to AZ first, as they may not take it back for a refund (exchange only).

why do you have the dealer R/R the clutch? just curious.

take my advice and never buy another part from autozone (this excludes batteries, oil, filters, car care items and any other good brand name product) as for there "oem replacement parts" they are garbage, the only good parts behind the counter are goodyear gatorback belts, that is the only good brand name behind their parts counter, the rest is crap made by companies such as albany (brake pads) wells and bosch. the quality is no where even remotely close to oem parts. if you want good parts and ones that iwll last buy them from the ford dealer or from summit or jegs or something like that, any good aftermarket name, not autozones brand. i work there and i know the garbage we sell behind that counter, the day i put $16 albany brake pads and autozone "double silicone" plug wires on my car is the day i burn it. take my advice and dont go to autozone for parts, stick with the ford dealership parts counter, the quality is 10x better then anything autozone sells.

cb18201 I would semi agree with you. True autozone parts are not the best, but they are good for the money that you pay for them. I also work at autozone(very recent employment). The stock replacement clutch holds up every bit to the 240hp 322tq I have at the wheels. I also run the double silicone wires(I am a college student and this is what I can afford). On the scope the wires fire fine. I am running all stock parts pretty much. I also suggest that you do a little research on some of the companies autozone deals with, u would be suprised who actually owns some of the companies you named. I will agree with you on the wells thing tho, these parts suck big fat chimichangas. So do I suggest you buy autozone parts... absolutaly if that is all you can afford. Also cb18201 u do realize we carry raybestos right? That is a decent brand. The autozone parts all come with a lifetime warranty. Bottom line is you ARE going to use the lifetime warranty, but for the money I sacrafice the time I have to save the dough. Also, look through your catalogs cb18201 we can get pretty much everything summit caries and at our discount!! Just a word of advice... if you have the money pay for the spec stage 1. The king cobra is also a viable option if you dont mind the extra pedal effort.

just to let you know we dont get discount on any parts in our catalogs, any part that is special ordered there is no discount on for us, ive tried already, i wish we did because i would be ordering alot of parts, also whoever told you we get discounts on that stuff is wrong, ask your district manager or your head store manager, he will tell you that we dont. and i know we carry raybestos, they arnt to bad but 99% of the stuff we sell is crap.also there has to be a lifetime warranty because the parts break so dam fast, you wouldnt believe how many returns i do everyday with people with parts they bought 4 months ago an are already shot. 99% of the time you buy something from a dealer you wont have to ever return it because it will last for years and years, so instead of buying crap and returning it 100 times in 5 years for your "lifetime warranty" , why not buy a good part from ford and have it last 15 years with out a problem and not waste your time returning it 100 times and doing the same job on your car over and over.

My mistake, dont get 20 off on the catalogs . Yeah, Agreed there parts are junk, but they work for the money I shop at autozone all the time, or I did. I have many parts on my car from them, but only stock replacements. Anyway, I agree with you 100% that you can get better parts everywhere else!! Even at csk and pepboys lol but they are also more expensive. I was just saying, if the guy wants to buy a cheap clutch, then at least get one with a lifetime warranty so when he does have to pull it at least it will be free. The way I look at it is I buy the cheap parts if I need to, then wehn I can afford to upgrade I do, but untill that time I will never have to buy the cheap part again cuz it has a lifetime warranty . On a side note, I have replaced my pos duralast starter over 10 times. My buddy put some whatever rotors on(not the valuecraft ones) and they warped and turned blue after 1 month... twice!! I thought maybe I was missing something with his master cylinder or calipers, but he wanted to try buying something from checker, he has had checker cheap rotors on the same car for over a year and they are not even a little warped.

that sucks that yall dont get a discount on special order parts, i work at advance auto and we get 20 on pretty much everything except oil and drinks.... pretty much any cheap parts place you get what you pay for.... just so you know, yall arent the only place whose cheaper brands come back quite often.... theres just such a huge difference in the origional companys and the aftermarket distributors.... some arent that bad though

i open plenty of those boxes and i dont see any orange, and you can go and buy whatever you want from autozone i just prefer not to because i see the quality of the stuff everytime i go to work, i see what is returned andwhat happens to the stuff.

camman,

i ran commercial in a store for about a year and was selling alot of this stuff to some top notch mechanics... i see which stuff was good and which was bad.. steer clear of gabriel struts.. the return rate on them is astronmonical.. stay away from the autozone brand batteries and the white duralast.. the gold duralast hardly ever came back.. commercial would sell bosch batteries.. those seem to hold up pretty good.. ive heard stories of a bad batch a few years back but in the year i was there very few came back... ive seen several starters that bench test well but when they got hot they draw way too much power... this can be a problem if an autozone employee thinks their doing the right thing and refuses to give you a new one cause it "tested" fine..
