I hit a deer w/ my civic tonight. Not bad I was going about 65 on the highway when two deer bounded out in front of me and stopped. One in each lane. I hit the brakes and almost stopped in time but clipped the 2nd deer with my passanger headlight, busting it. I also put a small dent in the hood that managed to crack the paint. Thats what pisses me off the most. I almost got away with just a $60 charge and a trip to the j/y. But the crack in the paint has me worried about rust. Otherwise I would ignore it cause its under a bra.

Anyway. I just called my insurance and I'm gonna have an adjuster look at it tomorrow. If its a lot over the deductible or I find more damage tomorrow I can go ahead w/ a claim otherwise I can cancel it w/o incuring a penelty. Also I guess in some states collisions like this aren't chargible and my rates won't go up. I hope so otherwise I will be canceling the claim.

Eitherway looks like its gonna be a tight christmas.

Oh the damn deer was fine too. Well as far as I could tell. It got back up and scrambled into the woods. I really hope it didn't get hurt too bad.

you think that's bad, i had 3 trees fall on my truck today, while i was driving!! talk about bad luck!! I was coming home from the college and all of a sudden i see this HUGE bush falling from my left right on top of me, so i hit the gas to escape it but it didnt work, the first tree (luckily it was only the tops) hit my truck the hardest, and i ran over the last two in a panic..The damn thing scratched up my black paint(not that it matters), broke my left mirror, broke the sun visor that goes around the window, broke my headlight(low beam is out now) and clear corner marker light, and left some bad rub marks on the hood, but luckily no dents that i've noticed, it sucks!! the trees were blocking both lanes after i got through clear over the sidewalk...i wish i woulda hit a deer...that's wreck #2 now, damn the 3 rule!!

This will be my forth claim in 3 years. One is small, one a total write off that was chargable, and another almost total write off that was not chargable due to weather conditions. So only 2 count against me but still.

Honestly my insurance was clean and then I just had a bad rash. Hopefully the damage is below my deductible. That way I can cancel it and pay less in the end. Still sucks.

They PLAN that **** man. They DO. Two deer pulled the same maneuver on me a couple years ago. It's a conspiracy I tell you.

Although it varies in some states, hitting a deer is usually comprehensive and there's no deductible.

Swerving and hitting another car or ending up in a ditch because you tried to avoid hitting the deer, would have a deductible and may cause rates to go up.

Find out for sure, what the laws are in your state. Insurance companies are not always upfront about it.

I wouldn't be so upset if it wasn't so little damage. Because of the paint damage I want it fixed before the salt can get to it. Otherwise with the bra on you don't see any damage other than the smashed headlamp lens.
