Axle Back or Cat Back

Ok now that I am back in a stang again all is good although I am not as familiar with the 05 and up as I am with the modular and fox body platforms. I have been looking into an exhaust system because obviously the stock system just doesn't do it but I am torn between a full cat back or an axle back. Dont get me wrong I want a great sounds but I am worried that the cat back will be way to loud and will give me a nasty drone when I take long trips. Then again I feel that the cat back will give me a better boost in performance than the axle back. Let me know what your opinions are on the two.

I did axleback because I take road trips every year from chino hills california(near los angeles) to el paso Texas ( the point of texas that borders juarez). you would like axleback. drone isnt too bad for me.

The stock exhaust flows fine, there really isn't a performance gained by replacing it from the cats back. The stock mufflers flow well too, an axle back will change the sound, but not really gain any power. The power gains come from long tube headers and replacing the stock H pipe with an off road X or H pipe which will delete the cats. Short tube headers are not worth the effort or money.

Ive heard other wise. I know longtubes are better with o/r x. but I live in caliornia. I have to get what performance I can without making it illegal

An X Pipe with high flow Cats and a strait thru axle back will get you
some extra power you can feel as well as better MPG. I had a Bassani x/cats
with Magnaflow strait thru mufflers on my 04.

I just put on GT 500 mufflers. Can't beat the price and the noise level is perfect.

I was really considering just the axle back mufflers but the other night I decided to pull them off just for the heck of it and loved the way it sounds! So now I am considering just doing the straight pipes I am just worried about a drone.

I got an X pipe with my pype bombs. quieted it down a little bit and added a little more power. looking forward to my road trip next year

Alright now that I made the decision I am going straight pipes anyone have any recommendations of which one to get? I have always run MAC products on all my other Mustangs and love them but I am open for any suggestions.

I would just go to my local exhaust shop, you can normally get your car straight piped for around $200

I was actually looking into the Pypes Pype bomb axle back. From the sound clips I hear heard they sound pretty nasty.

my buddy Sean had an X-pipe and it makes the sound very even flowing for for the dual mufflers he have..

Yea it looks like the Pypes axle back seems to be the way to go, now just to wait to get paid to order them.
