Axle codes?

Hey everyone. Just one quick question: What does 'BM' mean for an axle code (driver's door sticker)? My car (98 GT 5-speed) has that and I'm not sure if I have 3.08's, or 3.27's. Please help. Thanks.

according to my chart:

BM is a 2.73 locker

not to sure about the axle codes in my chilton's manual or my haynes manual neither one have the code for my car the axle code from the door sill is ME but when i got under it and looked at the tag it 3L27 is the differential a 3.27 traction lok as i am considering a 3.73 tru-trak gear swap

you're correct...3L27 = 3.27 traction lok

i would need the year of your car to check the code from the door.

you may want to ask about that switch...some people they don't feel much difference going from 327 to 373.

my car is a 1998 mustang GT and as far as i can tell the car is mainly stock except for flowmaster cat-back exhaust and diablosport tuner. what are your thoughts on a 3.73 and tru-trak differential swap. i have been told to stay away from the tru-trak and stay with the stock traction lok

weird...for 98 i show a single digit axle code. for a 99 i show a two digit code ME for 1999 is a 3.27 traction lok.

what's the 10th digit of the VIN?? W=98 X=99

i've never heard of tru-trak so i couldn't say either way. i run a torsen carrier.

i like the 3.73's in my car. i had 2.73s in it. mine is also an automatic. people say you can get away with 4.10s in a manual car.

the 10th digit is a W but the car had apparently came with a paint job i have never seen before right from the factory. maybe the car is unique i have never seen another one that is painted that way the car currently sits on 2000 5 star rims,and has 1999 35th anniversary edition seats that i got for a bargain.

i had most of the information already just the axle code was throwing me off as is the paint scheme as even the dealer where it was originally purchased says that is the way it was delivered

figured but i was hoping that it showed a special order. you might run the VIN and see.

i'll ask my buddy tomorrow about the checker flag scheme. see if he's heard of it. he's been with ford for a long time.

Also i have been looking at a lot of mustangs at shows and it seems that the dash is usually 2 tone and my car is all black i have been told that a black on black mustang is fairly rare but i can't see it being that rare but the cars are getting scarce as i guess alot of them are getting smashed up mine hasn't even hit 100,000KM yet or 60,000 miles as i never drive it it is just a lawn ornament as i lost my job and can't afford to drive it anymore

my friend said that some dealers will order different trim and such so they can sell it as "limited" but he hasn't heard of any coming from the factory for general sales with you paint scheme.

my dash is 2-tone but i haven't taken notice of others.
