Got my 06 back from dealer yesterday they replaced clutch pack and put different oil and an additive in. Everything is working great Parts on billl are:
(1) 3LIZ-4947-BC Spacer
(3) XY-75W140-QL Oil
(3) XL-3 Additive Oil
(1) TA-30 Sealant
Hours 3.3
All covered by warranty including rental car . I hape the problem does not come back

Very good, I'm glad they fixed it for you.

I see the XL3 on your parts list.........they must be putting it in now with all warranty work.

XL-3 HAS to be put in on any limited slip ford rear end.. XL-3 is a friction modifier, they have had other friction modifiers too but XL-3 is the one they want us to use on all of them reguardless of year or model

Rambroo99, how's the noise now since it's been almost a couple of months? A lot of posters have had the TSB done for the axle moan and it seems to return after two or more thousand miles.
I have it (currently 2,500 miles on the ODO) and I'm waiting this one out...

Ford's $16/qt 75W-140 does not contain any friction modifier. It'd be easier for Ford to just source out 75W-140 synthetic formulated for use in clutch based LSDs. Then again, Ford wants you to buy their overpriced gear oil and the $4 bottle of XL-3 when the car is out of warranty.

Hey Rambro,
Just curious.....could you describe some details regarding your issue. I have an '07 with what I think is some slight groan in the rear but not when I'm turning. I can just hear the mechanicals of the rear and not sure if this is really an issue like everyone else is having.

Mine returned almost immediately after the dealer performed this TSB on my '05. Fortunately, it's pretty well drowned out by the cacaphony of dashboard rattles and undercar tinny rattles (all of which are apparently unfixable too)

Dennist: So far mine is ok. My noise was only when making a slow turn left or right. Dealer put in new clutch pack per TSB about 2000 mi ago.

I just got mine back this morning after 6 days in the shop. They did a complete rear end rebuild, new gears and all, and a new clutch kit. Sounds great today. I only have 1,200 miles on the car so we'll see what happens in the future.

The dealership was pretty cool cuz I took it in for a little shake oin the front and they said they noticed the noise on the test drive to feel the shake, and took care of it for me. Full rental, full warranty

Rear Axle Moan

I got mine done 2 months ago, it has come back. I put in the XL3, waiting to see what happens. For what its worth, I will NOT take it back to the stealer as they for the most part have no idea how to fix a car, and secong really don't care. I was dealership mechanic and gave it up for the the politics. I will fix it myself thank you, lol.

I had a similar problem .I paid a small difference and the dealer installed the FRPP 3:73 and recalibrated the computor.It runs just as good but my throttle responce has improved.Poco

Beyond it being an annoyance and kinda embarrassing, is there any mechanical damage being done while the moan is going on? From what I've read I'd rather just deal w/ it for the time being than hassle w/ Ford.

The hassle may be worth it.If its bearings they could explode inside the housing,if its gears,shavings could make matters worse and eat up your gear set really quick.Let Ford repair their mistake.It could be bad bearing quality,gears or bad quality control due to poor installation.

Not sure if I am experiencing the same problem, I only here the moan if I am cruising. If I am on the gas or brake it goes away. Is this the same issue?

If the clutch packs are the only promblem with the rearend. Do you really have to get it fixed? Is it really hurting anything or is it mainly a noise issue because of the clutch packs being too thick and rubbing. I would rather have them rubbing, knowing i have extra material on my clutch packs , than to have my rearend torn apart and 6 months down the road the noise comes right back. All ford is going to do is put a thinner clutch pack in your rear(from what i heard) to stop the moaning/rubbing. So my main question is if you have the clutch pack issue are you hurting anything by not getting it fixed or is it just a noise issue?

I took my 06GT to the dealership. They replaced the clutchpack and the noise got worse. They repalced the gears and the noise went away. Less then 2K and the noise is back. The idiots tell me they can't hear it over the noise of the Flowmaster's. Pretty weak excuse for not wanting to fix their mistake! So now, I'm waiting to see if anyone else has a scenario that will absoloutely end the problem.

My '06 has 5,500 miles and has had the clutch pack noise for about 2,000. The dealership I work at has repaired under the tsb about 4 Roush's we have sold and none have came back, but I am leary of the repair from what I have read on here. I may just add half a bottle of XL-3 and see if it goes away. If not when I put my 4.30's in I will do the tsb.

My 07 GT has had the same problem. I have driven the car at a few open track events (road course) and the noise goes away after the events. Usually the noise comes back in about in about two or three weeks. It's been about three months since the last event and the noise has come back only slightly this time. I'm not going to try to have it fixed since it seems kind of hit or miss with the repair permanantly eliminating the noise, plus I have an extended warranty.
