Axle to IRS swap.

Hi.

I am swapping my axle for IRS... both cars are working and I have a few questions before i start.

1. My car is 2001 GT Automatic, and other car is 2001 Cobra
2. Is the lenght of the driveshafts the same?
3. It the yolk the same?
4. What is the yolk?
5. Stock computer wouldn't work because of the different gear ratios, right?
6. What Else Would I need?

Please include as many details as possible... the person will be driving quite a bit to get this done and i don't want him to wait for me.

Its a direct swap..just switch them. Are you positive that you want the IRS? I hope you have thought about this.

i am never going to break into the 12's in my car and at the same time i LOVE to drive in the twisties...

do you have anything against the IRS you want to tell me? I've never had the opportunity to drive a cobra for more than one day, so i have no complete experience in the whole deal

not too often... i've done only one burnout in the car...

the tires get spun for less than a second every once in a while, and they spun a bunch at one of the passes i made a few months ago...

but i don't do burnouts(tires are expensive)... i do chirp them a lot tho...

As long as you don't spin the tires you might like the IRS.

Well let me tell you. When i "chirp"/powershift into 2nd gear my car does jumping jacks, when i do peel outs my car does jumping jacks..hop hop hop. I personally hate the IRS for straight line performance, it is great in the twisties and for crusing though. I am currently working on my IRS to get rid of my wheelhop. Hopefully these thing will work for me, if not im going for the solid axle swap also. If you have any questions about the IRS you better ask now. Good luck!

Unless you're putting down 350+ RWHP, then it's EXTREMELY hard to launch, but if not, just ease it out of the hole and go, other then that the IRS is SWEEEET, great handling, ride comfort etc. if it's not gonna be a track/drag car, go for it, I can't wait to get my 03 cobra and have the nice ride quality and handling that the solid axle does not provide, good luck

anyone think I would have to buy two different sets of springs and such?

gt/cobra? are the front struts different for the cobra and gt?

do you know what the ride height is of the stock cobra in the back?

would a coupe's springs and shocks/struts fit with a vert's springs/etc. if not what would be the difference?

Front should be the same but the rear is completely different. I don't know of a single thing I used from my IRS when I went to solid axle. I even had to change the brake lines.

can you think of something that didn't fit and had to be thrown away?

it's probably going to be about 4/5 people working on this, with one of them just watching and making jokes all the time... don't want to miss anything that HAS to go on the car...
