B&M Hammer shifter installed (some pics and and comments)

Finally finished installing my hammer shifter yesturday. Pretty straight forward install untill i got into that problem involving that damn interlock cable. the interlock cable prevents you from removing the key unless your in park and doesnt allow you to shift out of park unless you have the key in the unlock position. the cable is mounted on to a slotted bracket on the new shifter. the cable has to have tension when its in park so it prevents you from shifting. in order to have tension on the cable, it has to be as far back from the shifter in the slot. B&M for some reason didnt make the slot big enough nor tells you that this cable needs to have tension. after trying repeatedly many different ways, i grinded the slot bigger with a dremel at it gave me enough tension.

the only other obsticle was finding a 12v source when the key is in the on position for the shift indicator. while the center console was out, i rewired the foglights so i could turn them on whenever i want instead of only when my headlights are on. so i just sliced the wire to that and everything worked mint.

i havent gone for a drive yet because of the ****ty weather and being busy but i really like this shifter already. i like the way you have to rachet through every gear and the lockout feature. i got it used off of a corral member still brand new in the box. i got it for a pretty good deal and i'd say its worth it.

all i need now is a transgo shiftkit to really use this shifter.

Look real mint in their. I couldn't help but notice your speedo reads 240 is that km? And the cobra steering wheel.

thanks for the compliments.

the pics dont do it any justice. looks way better in person. i was shocked at how good it looked when i took it out of the box. I live in Canada so ya, thats in KM. And the COBRA steering wheel is something that i picked up for a good price that i couldnt resist.

after i put the center console back on it looked factory.

the interior needs a real good cleaning. you can see how dirty the carpet is compared to under the center console.

I run the same shifter in my car...I have liked it so far. There is a gear indicator on the left side of the base of the shifter, but it isnt the best since the light isnt very bright. It does the job nicely though...

This is probably a dumb question, but what is the point of the shifter other than looks? I'm not dissing it, I like it a lot was just wondering what the other feature are, is like a Tiptronic Transmission?

i drove the car to work today and i like it. its kind of tedious when your trying to park it sometimes but after a while you get used to it and you can do it quick and easy. if i had a shiftkit, i would really be able use it but thats for next year.

you can tell what gear your in only when the key is in the on position. theres a dark tinted shift indicator on the side. with the key on, the red led lights up which gear your in. it doesnt light it up that great but good enough to know which gear your in.

i payed $125 US shipped off of a corral member. it was brand new in box never used. it came out to $165 Canadian. compared to $299 canadian if i bought it locally, i think i stole it lol. now i can spend the money i saved on some 3.73's

the biggest reason i wanted it was for that great look. but i also wanted the rachet action. it almost feels like i'm driving a 5spd.

I had a Hammer shifter in my Mustang before I took it out for my T-5.

xNeo, have you ever manually shifted an automatic car? You have to be very careful to go up gear at a time. Well, with this shifter, you can put in in 1st gear, mash the throttle, and SLAM the shifter forward once and it will shift ONLY one gear and ratchets back. Then you can slam it again and it will only go one gear each time. Whereas a stock shifter will go clear into nuetral if you push it too hard forward.

The good thing about the Hammer shifter is that it can work with stock valve body or reverse manual valve body. Because it ratches backwards and forward.

exactly. i got in to my dads car today to move it and i'm already totally used to the hammer shifter, that i hit the shifter from park all the way to 1st lol.

i love my hammer shifter, only wish i had my transgo already so i can manually shift it with out worries.

Wow this thread finally convinced me to get a B&M ratchet shifter. I didn't know they looked so good in an SN95 console.

After looknig at it for a minute.. I'm hooked now. If nothing more than just for the looks.
( That and I got my hands on a shifter kit for next to nothing. )
