I have one, Just installed it myself. I love it, and it was very easy to install. Probably took about 3 hrs of my time since you need to remove the center console and the section of console that houses your HVAC and radio but is not a major undertaking. If you decide to go that route and have a question, feel free to ask PBocconcelli@satx.rr.com

na u dont need to remove the center console to get the shifter off, go to napa or somthing and gete THIN little wrench and bend it at almost 90 degree this way u can get the two screws twords the front, takes a little time but much much faster then removing the entire console

On the hammer shifter can you put it in second gear or do you have to do the 1-D-1 thing?

i dont really like the hammer shifter, didnt make much diff to me and i prefer the stock shifter since you still have to go 1-D-1 its hard to pull it back down with the hammer shifter only real benefit of the hammer shifter is the looks in my opinion

he is referring to a stock shifter for the aod. to get the aod into second w/o it going into third you start off in the 1 position, which is first gear. You then throw it into D and then back to 1, which puts it into 2nd gear. to get it into third you just put it into D.

Also, w/ the hammer shifter, will it stay in a gear and not downshift by itself? for example, if you do the 1-d-1 to get into second gear and your rpm drops to below 2500 it automatically puts you back into 1st gear. Also, w/ the 1-d-1, it wont put u into second gear until your rpm is about 2700.

The shifter does not control the shifting characteristics of the transmission. The benefit of the Hammer shifter is that it looks better, It prevents you from overshifting (intending to shift from 1 to d and going all the way up to OD) and maybe quality.

In order to avoid having to do the 1-d-1 shuffle, and hold 2nd gear, you will need either a new valvebody or a shift kit.

The Lentech street terminator is a good one that allows you to hold 1, hold 2, and hold 3rd and then turn OD on an off as you wish.

Performance Automatic has a valvebody PA53301H that allows you to hold 2nd.

The Baumann engineering shift kit will raise shift points and firm up shifts, but it will still automatically shift you from 2-3 on its on, just at a higher RPM.

Those of you looking to change the knob of the AOD

I have found this nice piece over the internet

http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_t-style_aod_knob.html

TheBocSez : Do you like your Lentech valvebody ? I'm planning on getting the same setup (2800 stall, valve body and 4.10). Have you tried it at the track ?

Yes, I love the Lentech VB, I had the PA 53301H, their new one that allowes you to hold 2nd, didnt really care for it. The Lentech is the best. Plus I can control OD. The non-lock 2800 stall is great too, 3rd pulls much stronger now and 4.10's are the only way to go with an AOD in my opinion. I havent taken it to the track, but by seat of the pants feel, the 4.10's really made a difference, the converter made a great difference in launch and in 3rd gear, and the Lentech for some reason made it feel more powerful also, but that could just be psychological. You wont be disappointed.

call up jegs and buy the b&m shifter gate plate. the best 20 bucks i ever spent. it eliminates the 1-2 over shifting with out having to hold the button. It makes the manual shifting soooooooooooooooo much easier
