back from track, check out my new times

this was my second time at the track. i did both of these runs tonight and thought it was pretty good being consistant. my girlfriend was in the car with me on both runs tonight. i was launching at around 2300rpm. i noticed the rear wheels were spinnin alot through first gear, pretty much most of it. what do ya guys think about these times and if you have any suggestions i'd definitly accept em. at the bottom is a link to my cardomain page with my other track times on it that i had the first time.

you need to get some traction man, get you some decent tires, at least drag radials, and go back out there and you should see a nice improvment! and put the girlfriend in the stands where she belongs, i cant beleive that they let you run with a passenger in the car, i get hammered by techs about not having a driveshaft safety loop and other safety crap because i am in the 12's and you are running with a passenger, the techs at my track would crap bricks if you pulled up to the line with a passenger in the car!

i'm running on the stock tires, i'll look into some drag radials. heh, girlfriend wanted to come along cause she had seen races before and never been in one. so i took her this time. california speedway allows passengers in cars no faster than 14 seconds. next time out i'll be by myself and hopefully by then will have some drag radials. my dad wants to get a set for his saleen, so i'll just borrow his if the saleen doesn't goto the track.

with the drag radials, would i have to worry about doing anything to the stock rear end? i only have a timing adjuster, underdrive pullies, and a shifter. dunno if i could hurt the rear end with the tires gripping more than they would with regular street tires.

Those times arent too bad considering you had a passenger.
You'll shave a tenth or two by not having her with you.
If you run the street tires again lower the pressure to about
18psi, or get dr's. You should'nt have any problems out of the rear.
If you get up around 260-270rwhp I'd go with 31spline axles.

I got the Nitto's on my 98 cobra. They are better if you plan to run them on the street and track and last longer than the BFG but the BFGs have less lines to them so they are better at the track. Mickey Thompson has a new drag radial out as well. I would probably get the M/T's to try them out and by the looks of it they are better than both Nitto and BFG and also have a good reputation.

BFG Drag Radials my friend.....they knocked off 2 tenths in my 60ft's. I havent even got to launch on them hard either, there is definately more time in the tires.

Not bad numbers considering that you had a pessenger on board. I see that you are from Rancho Cucamonga...pay a visit to Ken at Kenne Bell (they are in Rancho Cucamonga)...he will hook you up with something to lower those ET's....get blown bro

haha ... if i had the money it would be done. a supercharger would be sweet, but i don't think i will supercharge my stang. i think i am going to build it up N/A and leave it at that. i have a 72 nova that i am going to build, my goal is to get it down to the 10's at the track. so most of my money is going into that. should be a fun little project.

maybe i will convince my dad to get a set of the mickey thompson drag radials. if not the mickey thompson, probably the bfg then cause they would only be used at the track. i wouldn't have them on all the time. we are going to get a set of rear wheels and the drag radials. that way when we goto the track we can just swap em at the house, drive down there and race, then bring it home and put the stockers back on.

how is the mileage on the nittos for street driving?

Heck if all your going to do is use them for track only then I would just get some welds or beater rims and slap some M/T Et streets on. Definetly would be way better than any drag radial. The nittos are rated at 12,000 miles street/strip use of course it could vary because everyones driving especially at the track is different.

Definately need traction!
My tracks let me run with a passenger as long as I'm slower than 12.9 and they sign a waiver.

drag radials will help, but you don't necessarily have such a large traction prpoblem as you think.

my 0-60' are lower than that on street tires, and I have 373's, and more RHWP. You need to change how you launch. Don't just dump the cluch at any rpm. Try taking off w/o full throttle, and slip the clutch. Something will work better than what you're doing.

Unless your tires a bald Rid the passenger, and get some better times !

Nitto's will help alot i ran 14.05 @ 99 with my wife in the car and then ran 13.72 with a 1.96 60ft @ 100 so nitto's will help alot and the rear end will be fine i have 3.73's and 10.5's with 275/40's on them Hope this helps and good luck

ya, next time i will be running solo. i launched at ~2300rpm, and after the first run i knew that i needed to slip the clutch a bit. so i was gonna do that on the second run but ended up dumping it and played with the throttle a bit. next time out i am gonna slip the clutch instead of playing with the gas.

I was at cali dragway saturday.

First time out with bfg dr's 275/50/15 on centerline telstars.
I didn't even warm them up and ran 2.0 60ft time. I have a total of 40 miles on them so there not even broken in yet.
I obviously didn't do the appropriate burnout to get optimum traction.

I ran a 14.01 then a 13.999 I was launching at 2k and dropping the clutch and hammering the gas...not skill what so ever

I need to learn how to drive.
