back up lights on a 67

I am trying to hook up my back up lights on a 67 coupe. The lights and wiring seem intact. I believe the wires hook up to the shifter somewhere but I dont know where.
Does anyone have any help for me....?

Is it a manual or an auto?
if an auto; its the neutral saftey switch that controls it; which is found directly ont he transmission; if you go under the car to where the shifter hooks up to the transmission itself you'll see it; or if its missing.
Not totally sure about manuals but i believe it'll be where the shifter is, it should be a switch like this http://www.mustangsplus.com/xcart/images/P/00206lg.jpg

The back up switch is located on the linkage for the 4 speed manual trans, I would assume it is also for the 3 speed manual.
