Back-up lights out again

Back in 2007, my back-up lights were out.

Now they are out again, and I just want to double check that I followed Dr. EluSivE's de-bugging tips -

With power on and the car in reverse, I checked both screws on the switch with the alligator clip on the metal transmission, and again on the body. No connection either way. So I can conclude the switch is bad, again?

4 years strikes me as a short lifespan. Are these switches especially fragile or what?

Odd question but does your blower fan on your AC work?
