was on the way to pick my sister up from school and my car started to smoke. i pulled over and there was cooant everywhere. i let it cool down and brought it to the closest advanced auto. the guy there looked at it and he said that it looked like my water pump was messed up or the water pump seal. i dont live that far away so i filled it with coolant (full jug) and took it back home. i opened the hood when i got home and alot of steam/air was comin through a tiny hole in the intake maniflod. could it just be the intka emaniflod or could it be that and the water pump?

Your intake manifold has cracked and you must now take it to a Ford service department for free replacement. Call the Ford service department first and have your VIN ready. You should not have a problem getting a new one.

He has a 96 GT, the extended intake manifold coverage is only for 7 years from the warranty start date. So no it won't be covered, sucks but ford is a really cheap ass company.

yup 96 wasn't even covered in this last extension we had a 7 year extension in like 99.
Only thing you can do is change your intake...they go for @ 150-200 dollars.

Don't ever listen to the auto store guys, they are not mechanics, only reason he told you it was a water pump is because they sell it

Your Plastic intake cracked, search around in the 4.6L section for many of answers/routes you can go with fixing or upgrading your situation

I am pretty sure there is a list if VINs for 1996 that will get manifold replacement regardless...

I suggest calling the Ford service department and asking, can't hurt

My 98 wasn't covered.

When I called their customer relations/service (whatever) they told me that they may have been able to give me a refund check if I had someone replace my intake in the seven years after 98, and had my recipt. There's no way a 96 will be covered. I tried to get them to do it out of goodwill and I think they would have if the settlement had not been from a civil lawsuit. (like if it were a recall as opposed to a settlement)...

96 mustangs were not covered in this last lawsuit because we were offered a recall a few years ago and got the same 7 year offer that the lawsuit was awarded...7 years is long gone for 96 mustangs. Now some 96 Crown Vics were in the last lawsuit because they were not included in the original recall back in like 1999.
