If you think its the fuel pump, turn your ignition on (dont start your car) and listen for your fuel pump to motor on. If you dont hear anything it might be that. I remember when my fuel pump went, it was a similiar situation as yours. But days before it went, when I turned on the ignition, the pump would get louder and louder. Then finally went.

Well when it wont start, check for spark. If you have spark check your fuel pressure.

TFI is on the passenger fenderwell under the inlet tube.

car has spark, but when I turn the key to on the fuel pump is not turning on...would this be a sign of a bad pump or an electrical problem? and also if it is the pump, should I upgrade to something better than stock or would that just hurt my gas mileage having the mods i currently have

Depending on how old it is, it is probably the pump. Although, one time I had to replace a fuel pump twice in one year in my truck (Hey, it's a Chevy) lol. Anyways, about the question for fuel economy, a bigger pump sholdn't hurt you at all. If you don't upgrade injectors or raise the fuel pressure, a higher volume pump is not going to push any more gas than it did with the stock one. I would base my decision completely on what you plan to do with your car. If you see yourself getting h/c/i, bigger injectors, etc, go ahead and get a Walbro 255 in-tank pump. They are only about $125 from most places, and with that big of a pump you can always have a little extra breathing room. Hope you get it figured out!

If you cannot hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on then it is most likely your pump. But make sure you can definatley not hear it, and check your fuses! One time I replaced a fuel pump on a car and I checked the fuses but what I didn't realize was the fuel pump was on the PCM fuse. So I basically did the install for nothing. <- (On a chevy, they just couldn't make an easy to figure out fuel pump fuse, lol)

On a side note, if you are not planning on doing anything outrageous a 155lph or 190lph pump might suite you better. A 255 can't hurt but I don't know if it's just me or not but I always think that all the fuel you aren't using is regulated back via the return line. And it does have a filter boot before it is returned to the tank but I guess I was always kind of weird about having so much fuel being regulated back. Maybee i'm just weird? LOL Anyway good luck with that man.

I would have been checking the electrical side of the fuel pump to know if you were missing juice. alternatively, checking FP could have likely given the same results.

I would let it run at your house - it will probably take a poo poo again so you can diagnose a little better (in the comfy confines of home).

Good luck.

replaced the pump, ICM, and coil. I'm starting to wonder if somehow my brand new distributor failed already and the PIP sensor has gone bad over the period of 2 days...thats really the only possibility I can think of...any more ideas of what to check? would a bad MAF sensor do it?

allenpark94gt - When I read your post at first the Stator Sensor in the Dist. screamed at me but I didn't bring it up because it seemed that you your fuel pump may have been the problem. When mine went out on me my car died at 60mph on a bridge. And the car would not start back up again. It sucks to think that it would happen again with a new Distributor, did you check the TFI Module near the airbox? I heard they can cause the same thing but never experienced it myself. I don't see what else it could be? I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check the MAF sensor out. Let us know any updates. I beleive there is a way to check to see if the stator sensor is bad but I cant' recall it off hand, does anyone know how to check it?

When you put in the new dist, did you put it @ TDC. If your timing is off then the car will be hard to start. If your timing is already set correct then get a test light and check your hall effect sensor on the dist plug. to make sure it's getting power.

well you guys are about to laugh at me forever....I replaced all that stuff..then I couldnt figure out what was wrong still...so i went back through it...had fuel, checked spark again and there was no spark, so at that point i'm like wtf is going on...checked the plug that goes into the side of the coil and found that the positive wire had rotted or melted and broke in half, spliced in a new wire, car started right up....I"m really pissed at myself right now...but just for future reference you guys should check there first...lol
