BAD Idle lope/hanging idle fixed!

I found my problem! it was my homeaid cai!. I put back on the stock rubber elbow, and it fired right up and idled like a cam'd dream! i believe that it was due to the placement of the Intake TEmp sensor, which i just randomly drilled/tapped into the pvc. woah she runs great now, i went out this morning and fired err up in the cold, and it settled into a smooth, cam'd idle! also at traffic lights it idles like a stocker! yeay!! now im just waiting on my MAF that i just won on ebay! for you that have the same problems, try this: fix!

Ya screw my homemade cai, i gotta buy a normal one now that I am not broke. Which would work well with a 80mm Pro-M?

I'm not trying to be a wise guy by saying this but a home made cai works great with the ProM 80 maf.

All you need is a little 3 inch pvc and a couple of 3 inch adaptors. If you enlarge the hole in the fender you will end up with a straight shot from the filter to the tb with about 90% of the filter in the fender to draw in cooler air.
This is based on the shorty style maf.

Before the above method of maf/filter setup I had a 90 degree bend at the fender hole and the maf/filter hung down low in the fender. After I went to the straight shot cai I did have to change a value or two with my tweecer to get back a steady idle.

Do you remember which values? That would help alot since I am ordering my tweecer r/t within a week or two.

The values would be different for each combo but I'll be happy to give you a few of the most common functions, scalars, tables, etc that can help with idle issues.

isc functions
maf transfer
inj offsets
idle speed
inj low slope
tb airflow
spark tables

That ought to be enough for you to get started on your research. You'll have no trouble finding threads about idle issues cause a steady idle on a heavily modded car can be quite elusive.

Welcome to the would of self tuning and a quick tip for you.

When you start to do the reserch which is ...... just read everything you can get your hands on about the t4m0/j4j1 family of pcm's ....... at first it can seem over-whelming as there is lots to learn but just stay at it for a while longer and you will begin to see that it all kinda sorta starts to fall in place.

Basically you learn as you go.

What kind of Cam do you have in your stang? Cuz I'm trying to find one that give off a nice rough idle, kinda like the idle in Gone in 60 Seconds lol. I think I would be better off getting a 347 Stroker and cam it out . I don't know much about cams so I have no clue what one would be best for me .

My intake temp sensor with my AFM pipe is almost on the bottom of the fenderwell Far Far away from the stock location. My car runs fine, but I do have <10 seconds of idle surging on cold start ups below 50 degrees F, some people have told me thats due to the temp sensor being so far away from the engine.

Moving the act sensor in the intake pipe should not cause a problem due to the fact that it's main function is to read the air charge temps.

Most of the time when problems develope after changing something in the intake system ( cai, tb, maf, etc) that supplys air to the motor the cause is that those changes have gone beyond what the pcm understands.

Sometimes you see someone who has been dealing with drivability problems benefit from clocking the maf cause they got closer to what makes the pcm happy.

That is the main benefit of being able to datalog what is going on and then make changes to the pcm based on the data that you gathered. Drivability is improved due to the pcm having those updated, therefore correct values.

yeah, maby it wasent the actual position of the aic, but all i know is that it actually idles correct now, where i had my temp sensor befor was about 2" away from the TB on the top, so its not even close to where the stock one was, however now that you guys mentioned clocking the maf, i believe that may have been teh problem, as i just randomly put the maf in there versus the stock boot aligns it how it should be. note, that it was really cold this morninmg, and it did lope about 10 times, but it never died, and then it settled out, and it dont die at stop ligts like it did, and it dosent die on startup, so i may have fixed something. anyway, im getting a new 73mm maf, so its all gonna start again! also, good point about the computer, i wish i had a tune on my motor.
