Bad Sensor?

A friend of mine replaced his aode trans that was bad on a '94 Stang this weekend and the tcc sensor harness had trans fluid in it, like the sensor leaked through. He also put a newer trans in his car, one that uses mercon V fluid, year unknown. I don't know but does he need to have the trans tuned since it is newer than the one he replaced? He says all the wiring harnesses hooked up properly execpt the trans range sensor, but he was able to use the old trans range off his old trans but his o/d light flashes on and off. He says he cleaned the fluid out of the sensor harness before re-attaching it to the new/used tcc on the replacement trans. Anyone know?

So the sensor would be bad then. When you say wicking, does or can the fluid actually travel up into the wire beyond the connector? What would be the best way to clean this? Advance Auto told him he could spray this can of electrical component cleaner on it. I was skeptical of this though. He showed me the can and it smelled alot like wd-40.

The harness is based on the passenger side of the trans and has six wires going from the harness that plug into a socket type connector. On his old trans, he used a q-tip and dipped it inside the socket connector to show me what he was talking about (still attached to the old trans) and at the bottom where the electrical prongs are, is a lot of trans fluid. On the wiring harness connector that he plugged into on the new trans, he told me that prior to installing the harness, he noticed it also had fluid, yet plugged it in anyway and proceeded to run the car at idle until the o/d light came on. My observation was that it appeared that the old socket connector had done whatever and the result was fluid leaked out the middle of the sensor and into the wire harness. I hate Haynes manuals but for his sake, I looked at the wiring diagrams and it appears that this socket type connector on the trans sends signals to the trans temp sensor, tcc solenoid, shift solenoid, and the electronic pressure control solenoid, if, I interpreted the diagram right. I think the socket type connector on the new trans is okay and his failure to clean the wire harness connector prior to installing it is causing his o/d light flash. What do you think?
