How about a squeal when the clutch is disengaged? It's a '98 conv, btw.

I've had intermittent squeals as I engage the clutch over the past 2 weeks (all gears), but usually only the first few minutes after I've started up. But yesterday I disengaged and started up (in 1st) and the thing squealed with the pedal fully depressed - stopped when I moved off.

Any ideas? TOB, belt? I installed a new PI intake last month and put the original belt back on as it looked to be in good condition. Couldn't be that simple a fix, could it?

Mine started squealing at 25K miles, getting louder as 40K approached. It went away when the clutch pedal was depressed, worse when the engine was cold. It would get stuck shifting from 2-3 and made an awful grinding / catching sound under the shifter.

Should've gone in while the car was still under warranty because when I called the local Ford dealer at 40K, they said the TOB was no longer covered.

I probably tore up the clutch with the way I drove, LOL, but that TOB would've gone bad on its own.

Sick of it not shifting right and making a hellacious noise, I replaced the clutch, shifter, TOB, quadrant and spacer, with resurfaced flywheel. It has never happened again. Shifts like a dream, clutch is smooth as can be. Very, very happy now!

The only regret was not getting an aluminum flywheel while it was all taken apart. Not going in specially to do it now.

Hmmmm, really? a new TOB comes in that kit, are you sure they didn't replace it? also alot of talk @ TOB issues and it's NOT always the TOB, other issues could exsist that cause the noise
