balancer question

Well so far i have i have the fan off for more room and i took off the crankshaft pulley.I just cant take that bolt off in the middle because the balancer will turn with it.
What did you guys use to get the balancer still and loosen the middle bolt?

impact air gun, or take out spark plug on no1 cylinder and put a piece of rope in it / rotate engine until no 1 comes to the top, the rope with stop the piston from making its full rotation because it fills the combustion chamber, loosten the bolt, after words slowly rotate engine back the other direction enough to remove the rope, thats what i do, some people will freak out about it, but i have done it hundreds of times, never had a problem.

If you're replacing the balancer, you seriously need to think about renting/buying a puller from the local auto parts store...

I did that yesterday.

I changed mine about 2 months ago...I had no problems getting the center bolt out. I held the balancer while my dad turned the wrench...Do you have anyone to help you out? Honestly, I had a tougher time getting the center bolt back in....

Put the car in 5th gear, chock the wheels, pull the Ebrake then turn the bolt. The drivetrain will hold the balancer in place while you break the bolt loose.

Worked for me, but won't in this case...
As long as you have a 5-speed...

Impact.

A local shop could blap it loose. You could tighten it enough to safely get home and then remove it.

i got it done,it took a while,but i got it.I put the new balancer on and the rpms if so much smoother.I got a romac.
