I'm gonna machine up a pait of spacers for a friend. Anyone know the dimensions i should make them?

I know they need to be 0.330" in height and slip over a 5/8" diameter shaft. What should I make the OD? 1"?

That seems about right. I bought some 5/8" hardened spacers for my 91, and they worked just fine. I bought some 5/8" washers at a different store for my 81, and the overall diameter was too large, so they hit the strut. I had to take a grinder to them to cut them down. 1" overall should work.

So i machined up a 6" long bar of hardened steel. I made the OD 1" and the ID around .625 for now. I just need to know the proper ID before i chop it up into .330" long spacers. I wanna see if i can get a few out of it and maybe sell a couple pairs.

Anyone have a fox balljoint handy care to measure it with some accurate calipers??

Maybe i'll go to AZ and buy a balljoint.

I have a Pair of the Spacers from my M-2300-K Kit in the closet, if you give me a day I can pull them out and make some measurements for you.

I just installed some 94 model ball joints on my 86 model, worked out pretty well, I'd advise this to anyone who has the suspension completely torn down, but I have the spacers on my 91 as well, they have been on there for 5 years with no probs at all

I did new SN95 balljoints on my car, but these are for a friend who doesn't want to change them for some reason

Can you just buy new 94-98 lower arms with balljoints in them for a '89 Gt? I was thinking about putting a new set on instead of replacing bushings and balljoints...my old suspension needs a overhaul. Thanks.

SN95 A-arms are slightly wider and will push the wheels out

that wil leave you with 3/8" left over or 3/16 all the ay around. that is not a safe amount of material to be relying on. especially on your suspension components. i would say at least make it 1 3/8" O.D. and if you can grind a flat spot on one side of it to the strut doesnt rub on it. i stack washers together and spot welded them. they where a little over 1 3/8" and i had to grind a flat spot in mine is why im saying this.

I could always model the spacer in Solidworks, give it real world properties and let it run in COSMOS and see how it does. (I'm an engineer)

I do have a 1.25" dia. bar of 6V-4AL Titanium left over from an old project. I could always use that.

I took the measurements on a pair that I have. the thickness is .335, the Inside hole is 5/8" and the Outside Diameter is 1 1/2". I ended up using my M-2300-K ones on my car and these ones were fabbed up as I wanted to have extras of everything in case supplies ever dried up for anything. Hope this helps you out!

I highly recommend replacing them while your spindles are off. With a good press, you can do each side in a matter of minutes. Buy only MOOG ball joints. They are tight, MADE IN USA, and have the grease fittings. I put them in my 81, and I also used them in my 97 F150.

My goal this summer is to go through the underneath of my '89 Gt and replace/refresh/undercoat everything before I paint the car. Would I be better off to replace my front lower control arms or just repaint them and install new bushings/ball joints? Is there any advantages of installing new lca? Thanks.

No need in replacing the control arms unless they are damaged or something.
