Definitely cool. Would be interesting to see if you could get some wheels in there to make the flares work for it. Especially if you plan on doing some road racing maybe it will be more functional. Good luck, have fun and thanks for posting pics.

I don't know. If it were mine I would leave it as is (especialy if you want to go racing) or take everything back to original.

I would leave the flares and get some cool 15x10 aluminum D-slot mags for the front and 15x12 in the rear. Very nice!

Lots of great comments and I agree ...the fronts are pretty...fugly...something. The front fenders are all fiberglass, I believe purchased from Maier back in the 80's. Regardless, they're all glass. I have to agree, removing the fronts and leaving on the rear flares may be TOO 70 ish, but I'm being pulled into a road racing look just because thats what it is/was being built for. It may take some getting use to the front flares, but I like the wheel/tire combo recommendations provided. Hell, it could be like avacado green kitchen appliances, its coming back in style....or not!
I'll have to figure out something and am leaning on building it as an 80's era racer, I just MUST make sure the right tires are installed or it will not look correct.

So the next time we see photos of the car it will have Cragar SS wheels with white puffy lettering on the tires, 3" lift shackles, side pipes, a Mr. Gasket street scoop, traction bars, and a chrome, welded chain steering wheel?

Yes there is some neglect...don’t report me to the Mustang authorities. The car is under a carport and under a cover, so no water gets to it except on our foggy days. I have to kick the '66 out of the garage before the '67 gets the prime spot. I will start working on her more this summer.

Since your up in Chico, are you going to Kool April Nights later this month?

I would leave the front flairs if your gonna keep the back ones. I like the retro roadrace look anyway. Of course I was cool myself in the 80's. If you are going to replace the front fenders, I bought mine from Tony Branda Inc. I asked them point blank "should I use the factory tooled replacements or do the offshore replacements fit just as good." He said that if I wasn't doing a concourse resoration the offshore models would be fine. So I went the cheap route and he was correct. They fit just fine and the body lines all lined up with the doors as they should. Branda mentioned that their supplier had made quaility improvements in the last few years and the fenders are much better than they were a few years ago

They Are really hard to see but from some angles I can tell that they're a red wine color, almost like a burgundy. I like the color, it's different. I wonder if he's gonna keep 'em. Looks like this color-----> :SNSign:

I agree w/ bnickel, keep the fenders and go with the road racing look. I think it's very cool. A friend of mine is building a '65 GT350R clone road racer complete w/ numbers and old school manufacturer decals. Very cool find.

Well, I might be somewhat biased but I quite like the flares
if I'm not mistaken they look the same as mine
came from maier racing, at least mine did, and I'm running 295/50/15 in the back and 245/50/15 in the front
I was unsure when I bought the car but I definitely like them now
I am actually in the process of replacing the rear quarter and am reinsatlling the flares
cool car have fun with it

Wheels to fit? Can you say Nascar? A full set of roundy-round wheels and tires would set it off. You'd think twice then about removing the flares.

I really like the fact that they're dark in some of the pics but in that one pic of the underside if you look at the top of it you see a bit of the red and it is actually a richer red.

Dang Krash, how did you know, you've read my mind. I'm having a little trouble locating a Mr. Gasket hood scoop. I sure am glad I saved those shackles! I knew they would come back.

I do have a serious question....where can I buy the Goodyear road racing tires. I realize they're not DOT approved. I looked on direct tire and tire rack but I guess all they sell is street tires. AND, who has the best roll bar kit? The one I installed in my hatchback (from Jegs I think) did not have exactly the same bend on the left and right side. Thanks for the help ...

Anyone else got some pics of "big flare" fendered cars? oh..and with the Mr. Gasket scoop!!!
