I been having issues with the carb for some time now. Before starting, when just the fuel pump is running the carb was ocasionally leaking fuel out fo the top of the carb. Now it is always leaking the fuel, and a lot of it.
It seemingly comes out from everywhere atop the carb including the screws above the metering rods.
I opened it up to make sure the floats werent stuck, they werent, i cleaned it out pretty well anyway as there was some rusty debris.
The gasket inside didnt look great though, kind of dry with some corosion.
Could this leaking/flooding be caused by that gasket or am I way off base here?

you're not way off base, but your problems are not with the gasket. Since you cleaned out the needle and seats and still had the problem (I would check it again since you found debris already), there are only a couple more things that could be wrong.

1) The floats have holes in them causing them to sink and not close the needle and seat assembly as they are supposed to.

2) The floats are simply just not adjusted right. Refer to the manual that came with the carb in order to verify that they are adjusted properly. If you don't have the manual you can find it at edelbrock.com

3) If those are not the case, then the problem is that your fuel pump is pumping way too much pressure. The edelbrock carbs are designed for NO MORE than 6psi of fuel pressure. 5 to 5.5 psi is optimum. If you are running any more than that, the pressure is pushing the needle and seat assembly open causing fuel to just flood in.

1.)holes, well when I cleaned it i didnt see any holes so if there are any they would have to be small which means they should take a bit to fill up... and when I turned the key the carb immediatly began overflowing with gas. So i doubt this is it but I could check...

2.)adjustment, Well I never opened the carb before and being as its not really old I doubt they got out of adjustment on their own.

3.)My money is on this... I had a fealing this might be the problem but I Was assured 7psi was fine.... I am running a 7psi fuel holley electric pump without a pressre Regulator. I was avoiding this because i didnt want to run a return line but I saw a summit one that doesnt require a return line I think, so I guess i'll pick one of those up and see what happens.

If that were the problem and the 7psi was too much and I put on the regulator will it be fine? Or could I have damaged something inside the carb?

Yeah i have a 1806 AVS carb i run 6 psi fuel pump it seems fine...just put a regulator on and set it for 5.5 psi I think you'll be fine.....

Yep, 7psi is definitely at least part of the culprit. And you're right, there are regulators that don't need return lines, and cheap ones too, about 28 bucks I think in Summit.

About the float adjustment, it may be fairly new, and you're right that they don't go out of adjustment on their own in a short period of time, but they are not necessarily adjusted properly out of the box. Mine was off a little, and I adjusted it accordingly. It is pretty easy to just check, so you might want to think about checking it out after you get the proper fuel pressure setup.

Lastly, no you didn't damage anything in the carb by running too much fuel pressure. Just get a regulator and you'll be good to go.
