Basically done, but need some consumer advice

I am about done with this kit. But I need some advice from you guys. I'm not sure what to add to the kit. I could add everything needed to make the kit ready to go as shipped, more or less. Problem is with somethings, I can't get it any cheaper than anyone else, without a huge buy in into the company. 5k to get 10% off, I don't know if I'll ever get my money back, or break even. So here's the point. If I add the the bonnet to the kit (needed), then the kit goes up 200 bucks. Not a big deal, it's needed anyways. But I have to pay shipping to me. So the kit will effectively go up a little. Then since it's more wieght in the kit, now the shipping to the customer goes up. The drain lines I will do, to make sure they are right, and send with eveything needed. But like the oil relocation kit, I have to pay 7 bucks to have it shipped to me, then what ever else it takes to get it to someone else. And since I have no idea where the person will want the oil filter, theres nothing I ca really do to it. It just makes the kit cost go up for no apparent reason. The carb gasket will be included because it costs 8 bucks, but 15 to ship !! So I can buy a few, and save the guy on shipping. See where I'm going with this ?
So if you guys where to buy something like this, would you rather spend the money for a complete kit, or order your own parts with the list I can give you, knowing you are saving a little dough ? There are more parts like this, so it can add up.

I've no idea what you're talking about. And I'm not sure, but what you're doing here is I think against the rules here in the forum. Seems someone else got into a bit of trouble here with something similar.

I'm not sure what you are talking about but I like complete kits. Running back and forth to the parts store wastes a lot of time and gasoline.

I think as long as you are upfront about what parts are not included (which you are doing), how much these parts will approximately cost (done), and provide a part number list and maybe even cheepest vender (also sorta done) that would probably be the best route to go.

It makes zero sense to ship a part back and forth accross the country.

for people not in the know, he's referring to his turbo kits. It seems to me it would be ok to leave out generic pieces, like the bonnet, oil filter relocation kit,etc. Just include suggested manufacturers, part numbers etc.

I think most people will go for the complete kit, just price the complete kit with a little something in it for you for your time and effort. I think HP has deductions from the price for mods that owners have already made.

Give a good detailed list with the kit and we can order the rest. Hell if you can't do mail order you don't have a classic!

From a laibility standpoint, you want as much control as possible over the installs without being there. That being said, a complete kit is desirable. Most users don't wanna research and go after all the peripherals, and you don't want people using sub-standard peripherals or mismatched parts, only to have them blame you when something goes wrong.

Besides, the only advantage for your consumers to not have a complete kit would be cost savings, and I don't think most would save much assembling their own.

why can't you arrange to have such parts drop-shipped directly from the MFG to the consumer? Very many of the catalog companies do it that way.

That for the info guys. I was thinking the same for header bolts brian. Why would I want to offer them standard when most probably offer them.The swede brings up a damn good point, too. Only problem is if a company has a problem with the shipping adress not matching the billing adress.I can make a deailed list wih part numbers on what's needed. if they want it all, have it drop shipped if possible then. I don't recall what it was or who, but they were basically putting together some sort of kit like you were and offering it here in the forums. I just didn't want to see you get into trouble like the other guy did.

I do not see anything in his first post in this thread that can possibly be construed as an offer.

Drop shipping from the MFG usually results in smaller nargins for the seller. Otherwise, everyone would do it.

Also, many Mfg's are good at manufacturing things, and suck at other things, like interacting with consumers on shipping issues, or shipping in a timely manner.

That's cool. I've tried to say away from anything that can be seen as advertising. I've got two kits already sold for models I'm not making yet and two mustang shop owners want to display them. I wouldn't say I don't need the advertising, but don't want the company to blow up to were I have to quit my job. Not yet anyways. I just want to have fun and not get overwhelmed.When I'm done with the jigs I'll throw it up for sale in the classifieds and some other places online and just see what happens.
Maxpower- I have talked to one company and they don't have a problem with it. So once I don't need the customers turbo for mock up, I can drop the kit by about 40 bucks right there if I ship it directly to them.
