My friends 06 GT has been plaqued with a few problems and the latest is the alternator cable that attaches at the battery terminal began smoking and melted the shrink wrapping. He immediately shut the car down and had it towed home. I guess we'll start at measuring the output from the alternator but does anyone have any other ideas to troubleshoot this?

The car has the edlebrock supercharger system on it which called for the alternator to be installed facing backwards. My K/B was the same way but it was never the source of any problems.
