my battery died, and the terminals from the car to the battery became completely oxidized/worthless. so i bought a new battery and new connections for the wires, but those old connections just will not come off. will i be ok cutting them off, and then splicing a new section into the new lead connectors? theyre very thick wires, so im thinking this will be trickier than it looks...

Cut them off and mount the new ones. Use bolt cutters or a hack saw. Did you get some pretty nice battery terminal conectors? There are some damn cool ones out there...

I used these and some vaseline on the terminals .. haven't had any corrosion at all.

I just did a quick GIS those are not mine. There really are some very nice battery terminals out there... Boat stores usually stock some nice ones.

I had corrision on my terminals and it took a few tries to finally stop it from returning. I cleaned the teminals first with dremel/wire brush then clean with a mixture of baking soda and water to remove any final deposits. Cleaned again with wire brush. Final added a felt washer and smeared the terminal and connector with diletric grease. That solved the problem
