Battery Question

So my car does not get started much these days, but since I am getting closer to moving into my new shop and finishing paint I need it to run. The battery has died...will not accept a trickle charge, a jump start and when I did get it to start (very hard) it ran for a minute and died. So I am replacing my battery and would like recommendations. Should I go with a conventional battery (lead-acid) or a gel cell (optima).

Let me know what you think.

When the car is finished, it will get driven every couple of weeks. There may be some racing in the future.

I have a optima and im very happy with it. My car sits for months sometimes and the conventional batterys went dead. I also have the battery in the trunk and I dont need acid fumes.

mine is in the trunck, also. what color is yours and what is the difference?

I have the red top. its very good for starting high compression engines and still have lots of power left if for some reason your engine dont want to start right away.
The blue battery is for marine applications
The yellow battery is a Deep Cycle battery, some people use these in there cars to support a powerfull sound system.

The only sound system I need is the rumble of my big block 429. It is so loud that I cannot hear the fartpipes on the ricers.


How big an alternator are you running?

The assumptionis yes. But since I cannot get the battery to charge I cannot turn the motor over. I am going to take the battery out of my 02 asn swap it in. See if that resolves the starting issue.
