Battery Relocation has begun....

I ordered the Summit kit. Then decided our trunks are tiny. The location I'm using SHOULD be fine for changing the battery, but I stopped by the old man's house and we built a tube frame for the box. This way I can unbolt everything and remove it, if need be. Plus it'll have more than just the J-bolts holding it in.

Oh and because I haul my extra pair of wheels to the track. I'm painting the inside of my trunk, and will cut carpet to go in the spare tire holder.

I'm still debating on larger wire, and not sure on running it inside the car or underneath.

lookin good so far.

i did everything from scratch.

used my stock modified battery tray with 3/8 threaded rod and made my own hold down. i'll make my own aluminum battery box this spring.

i used 1/o welding cable for both power and ground. even tho i didnt hook it up yet, i have 2 gauge cable to run from the alt to the battery.

what style battery disconnect switch are you going to use and where?

Not running one. I didn't move the battery to be "legal".... just for more room under the hood and some help with the weight.

I still have to get a fuse block.

i thought you go to the track a lot? they will hassel you unless there that relaxed about that kind of stuff

I live in "ozarks"..... I've seen them turn away ONE car at our track. He had a pair of vise-grips holding his steering wheel on in his RatRod.

Just for ****zles... I looked into the cut-off switch a bit more. NHRA won't allow a KEYED switch. They don't like street cars do they?

Well, after all this I bought the summit kit with 1 gage for $102. It looks like it has different end posts you can put on if needed. 2 gage is taking a chancde in my o and that's what I had b4.

I can get larger wire through where my dad works. They sell quit a bit of it at the Tractor Supply place. I'm still going to try what I have though.

Going to skip the switch for now. I may redo it later. I just want my engine in! If I toast a few starters and Oreilly's has to keep taking them back, so be it. LOL

When I moved my battery I used 1/0 welding cable and a ford pickup battery tray. I used a Flaming river battery cut off with the remote lever. I drilled a hole through my taillight and when I'm not racing I can simply remove the rod. Works pretty good and is NHRA legal.

I ran my battery cable to the starter on the outside of my car. I ran a 4ga power wire to my alternator on the inside of the car. I ran a 10ga ground wire to the original ground point on the car for the battery. Rick at Anderson Ford Motorsport says that you need to do the ground wire so it doesn’t change the resistance of the ground for the computer. If you don’t do this the tune of your car can change from day to day.

Where did you do your cross-over to the opposite side of the car? That's my big delima at the moment.

I'm not using the carpet in the trunk anymore. Sprayed it with trunk texture paint. Which kind kills the "hiding" under the rug trick.

be carful lol most any place that sells you waranty parts, if they know the car touches the track they are not liable to have to give you new parts.....it voids all the warranties

LOL - Oreilly's is like Wal-mart, they'll take a lot of stuff back. I know the guys pretty well at the local stores, they are all gearheads. They are happy to hear their products go to the track. It might help that Oreilly's was started in Springfield, MO as well. LOL

I didn't cross over the car. I ran straight from the battery in the RH rear and went directly to the starter.

I must be confused. Where did these route from and to and how did they get there?

I ran my main power wire from my battery (Pass side rear) to my cut off switch (mounted inside the trunk to the back of the taillight) Then out of the power switch, down through the floor (close to the fuel filler), down the frame rail, stopped just before I got to the starter, crossed from the frame rail to the trans, and then over the top of the started and connected it to the starter.

The 4ga power wire to the alternator went from the battery cut off (if your not running a cutoff you don't have to do this.) over the wheel well, behind the 1/4 trim panel, under the rocker sill plate, then I drilled a hole so the wire could go straight from the rocker to behind the kick panel, then I ran it out into the inner fender. Then out of the factory air box hole and hooked it to the alternator.

I can post pics for you but it will be a few days till I get my car back from the paint shop.

I did it like kck6894 but I didnt touch the alternator wire and my kill switch is mounted behind the bumper.

OK I'll see what I can do. I'm supposed to have my car back tomorrow and I need to get my new clutch put in so I'll see if I can get it on the rack and take some pics this weekend.
