Battery Relocation help

Hey Everybody,

I just bought a battery relocation kit to move my battery to the trunk. Has anyone done this before? I was going to put it on the passenger side of the trunk. Does anyone have instructions for mounting it properly? How did you run the positive cable through the car? ON the outside of the car or did you run it through the inside of the car under the carpet? Where did you drill holes? how big? Etc. I just want to make sure I get everything right. Thanks for your help everyone!!!

I've seen many neat installations on this board. My battery was relocated by the previous owner. It sits in a battery tray bolted to the passenger side by the rear fender. The ground lead goes to the frame through the floor board. All cables go through rubber grommets through the floor and front fender to the solenoid. The solenoid was moved to the firewall in the engine compartment. It is a nice job by the PO. I've seen other installations where the solenoid was moved to the trunk, which is really nice too, but I tend to carry things in my trunk, so I didn't want to do that. Oh, the positive cable is run along side of the frame rails and held in place with clamps screwed onto the frame.

If you move your solenoid to your trunk itll make it a little harder to hotwire.Our cars are easy enough to steal as it is.

Move it to under the dash and see how hard that is.... people wont know where it is.

what guage wire should I use in order to move the solenoid to the trunk? I know standard will be to small for that distance.

if you move the solenoid to the trunk, I would just use the hot side wire that is included in teh kit and use it for the starter wire. I personally would use 0 or 00 gauge wire for any thing that uses taht much power and is that long.

warning

If you plan to ever run your car at an NHRA track, you will need to install a battery power shut off that also kills the ignition. If that isn't bad enough, you will aqlso need to install a metal (20 GA. minimum) panel between the trunk and interior.

Let me get this straight in my mind, I should use the Postive battery cable that came with the kit to run from the solenoid to the engine compartment?? It was recommended that I use 0 or 00 guage to run from the solenoid in the trunk to the engine. Isnt that the size of the positive cable?

I ran mine over the pass side wheel well and down through the door jam (under the scuff plate) up behind the front kick pan and out the firewall. I also used either 1 ga or 2 ga batter cable. I dont remember off hand. I want to say the 1 ga.

I am giong to relocate the battery and the solenoid into the trunk. WHat guage wire should I run from the solenoid (not the battery) into the trunk. WHat kind of wire? I seem to be getting mixed messages. SOme people think I am talking about the battery cable. I will not be running the battery cable from the trunk to engine. Just the wire from the solenoid

I would say nothing less than 12 ga, might even use 10 ga depending on how many feet you need to run it. If you move the solenoid to the trunk dont you still need to take the starter cable from the other side of it to the starter. And I think that the cable to the starter needs to be shorter than the cable to the battery-solenoid does. But thats just my thinking. This is the third car I have had the battery in the trunk. Never had any problems.
