Battery relocations- why is it not more common?

I've been researching relocating the battery to the trunk and taking into consideration the benefits of a battery relocation like:
better launches, better weight distribution, reduced brake dive, improved cornering, less cluttered engine bay, and a reasonable price. Why is this not a more popular mod?

Are there drawbacks to this when done right that I am not getting?
Give me some opinions

I don't think its more poplar becuase its a pain in the a** to do.

Couple of reasons why more people don't do it:

1. Relatively expensive (because of #3).
2. If not done correctly, many people have electrical problems.
3. It's a hassle -- if you want to pass an NHRA inspection, you need the right type of box, and an external cutoff switch, which many people are unwilling to do on a car that is not dedicated to strip duty.

fear that something is going to get messed up. that's why i haven't done it yet. but i just bought a new truck and plan on garaging the Stang for nice weather occasions. i think i'm going to get the Summit kit and try it out.

give me a couple months and i'll let you know how it went.

FYI, Summit's kit is not NHRA legal. If you plan on racing the car, look into a different set up.

I am a little suprised at what I'm hearing here. This must be a very difficult thing to do. There are a lot of people here that can tear their entire engine down and build it from scratch, but they are afraid of a little wiring? Now I am a little worried. Well, anyways...So far I have decided to use either the Taylor kit or the Moroso kit for the relocation and 1 ought welding cable for the wiring. I hear this is more pliable and conducts better too. I do not know what switch and fuses I will be using.

The only reason I haven't personally done it is that I don't want to spend the cash on it right now, and I don't want to mount an external switch. And I'm lazy. Fear has nothing to do with it...

Your on the right track. Im in the process of doing it myself. EVeyrhting is done except for the wiring. I have a moroso battery box, flaming river push/pull switch and will be using 1/0 welding cable for the starter and 2 ga for alt.

To mount the battery box properly, you will need to drop the tank, so be prepared for that. i waited until i changed fuel pumps to do it.

Figure 100 for the box, 75 for switch, and maybe 50-100 for wire depending on where you get it. It is deffinatly worth it IMO, for the reasons you stated above.

what is missing from the summit kit? is the box legal and i will need a kill switch? how about the steeda box?

Its really not that bad to change IMO, i didnt in day at the hobby shop, the biggest pain was the Performance shop told me i had to run a wire off the ground to the PCU ground, dont know why just did it.
