Battery Removal ???

This is more than likely going to be one of the most frustrating things about my car, and the thing is, it shouldn't be.

So the car is 5 years old, its really cold out, and the battery decided to take a crap. Not a big deal I'm telling myself, that is until I try to remove the old battery. It won't come out. Granted its cold and snowy out, but it can't be frozen in there...

Someone please, don't tell me I have to get under the car to remove some bracket so that the battery will slide on out; but I'm sure, that is going to be the case.

Any thoughts? I don't have the proper tools to do that where I'm living at the moment (apartment), so I can't do it myself as if I was at my house. If I have to tow it, to replace a battery, I'm going to be p***ed. Someone help!!

you shouldnt have to get under it, there is a hold down in there somewhere I think on the bottom edge of the battery but Im not sure off hand.

There is a hold down on the engine side of the battery. Most likely the bolt will snap off due to corrosion and you will also need a new battery tray.

The place where you buy the new battery can give you some tips.

I would strongly suggest felt washers and silicone dielectric grease. Also, might want to check owner's manual for "re-learn fuel trim".

He's right, there's a bolt holding the battery to the battery tray. If I remember correctly (don't quote me though) I think it is a 5/16 socket and with a 6" extensions you can get it.

When you're facing the car, the bolt is located on the left side of the battery.

its easy to get out just one little piece on the side that holds it snug..

I was waiting for someone to mention that! Guess there is a first time for everything.

No worries - no new battery tray - just a quick trip to Wal-Mart to get the 6" extension that I don't, but now do, have in my current place of residence and she's running fine. Thanks everyone!
