So after a week of Turkey with the inlaws, I came home to find my 05 GT dead. It sounds like just the battery and being the stock battery from AUG 2005 I'm going to replace it. My question is this: Is it worth the money to buy a light weight race battery and will it hold up to the abuse of everyday driving and making trips around town in the winter just to warm up the engine?

If you have not had a dead battery before, considering that you still have the stock one, then consider yourself extremely lucky. Those with 05-06 models had issues with the battery getting drained for no good reason.

Agreed with the above! Horror stories abound, but just get yourself a good solid battery that you want. You warranty is already up so go for it. Lightweight is up to you, but when mine goes I am going for an Optima redtop...my buddy shot his with his .22 a few times, started the truck just fine like nothing happened :jaw:

why spend so much money on an Optima? Maybe for a trunk relocate I might think about it, but a battery with a good CCA would be fine. Costco batteries have dun me fine for years in many applications including my boat (which are brutal on batteries). my .02
