Hey does anyone know of any good performance shops around the San Francisco bay area? I've done many searches and there arent really too many around. Any that are good with mustangs would be a plus.

a friend of mine has a small garage in dublin, hes a pro scca driver. He raced mustangs for at least 15 years, and he will do mostly anything (suspension, most engine work, but he wont do tranny work or gear installs, and as long as the engine work isnt very extensive he can take care of it. they specialize in custom intake and exhaust work) and they've got a dynojet, and he kicks ass at tuning. He does excellent work, but he's a bit pricey. what kind of work did you want done?

There is one in the south bay in San Jose. Speed Merchant in downtown.
Not sure if you are willing to drive down that far from SF.

www.SpeedMerchant.com

Hope that helps

Thanks spitfiremk24. I acutally live in Pleasanton and right now Im just looking to get my exhaust leak fixed. I have a leak coming from the headers and I just wanted to get the gaskets and everything replaced. The leak is coming from where the headers connect to the engine. How much do u think he would charge for something like that?

Any exhaust shop should be able to fix that leak for you Make sure you get some copper or aluminum gaskets

If they just replace offending gasket, I assume it would be about $150, give or take $50. Do you have stock headers or ever removed them before? The mod motor headers seal up pretty good. Dont' hear about too many leaks. Any general mechanic shop should be able to do it for you. All they need is a good set of tools and a lift. Like mentioned above, if you want some nice gaskets, buy them from a performance shop and give them to the mechanic to install.

I have full length headers on there and I'm pretty sure it's leaking because the bolts are loosening and I dont see how I can just get in there and tighten them. If you guys have a way to tighten the bolts without any trouble I would really appreciate it, but I figure I'll get some locking header bolts put on too. Thanks for all the help.

I went there today to ask how much to install the bullit suspension package would be. I was quoted $500. So that's saying it takes them 6.25hours to do the job @ $80 an hour.
Also asked about an intercooled supercharger install $2500. They said it would take 20-25 hours to do. This all seems VERY expensive to me. I think I will keep looking. Anyone have any opinions on APEX or any other bay area shops?

It's hard to find quality work these days. All of the original Ford Mustang shops &owners have moved on to other things, or other cars by now. Some still do side jobs if you have connections. Have you tried Mustang Ranch in Santa Clara? There are some old school guys that have been around still left there. I really recomend you learn how to do the work yourself. If you go to the track, you'll notice the guys running the hardest have done all the work themselves. If you never learn, you'll end up paying others for a life time. Now is the time to learn. Start small and work your way up. Believe me, if it was difficult, these guys with half or barely a highschol degree wouldn't be able to figure it out.
