This sucks. I thought it looked pretty cool. But looks aren't worth 500 bucks in my book.

I read the article,it said it works best with stock,or slightly modified motors. So with a 331 and a sc,you might be better off with something else.[/QUOTE

When this intake was first introduced to anyone, 5.0 magazine had an article that said it was rumored that "a second version of the SSI intake will follow that will be for more serious force-fed or race motors. I'm just curious to see some "real results" from this intake. But I do agree that there would be a better option for a procharged 331.

I'n not very impressed with it at all. They moved the PCV valve and it can not be changed or serviced with the intake on. They had to put some sort of extension for the FPR and move it to the side. Also had to use a fuel line extension to hook up the fuel rail in the front as well. (does not look good, looks like an afterthought instead of engineering it from the beginning). The EGR has also been relocated so you can't get to it anymore without removing the upper.
If you look at the pictures in 5.0 they have a shot looking through the throttle body opening. You can clearly see a bad misalignment of runners and poor casting marks. (I would have left this picture out.)
I also don't like the idea that they put a 5.0 HO intake on a Cobra with Edelbrock Heads with Long Tubes and such just to get better numbers.
It looks heavier than other intakes as well and makes the engine look more cluttered in my opinion.
Unless it makes tons more HP than any other intake on the market then I don't see a need for it. I don't think it will make any more HP then what is currently out there.
The only reason I can see buying one is just to have a different look, and thats not enough reason for me!

I hear ya, I saw it a lil while back in the magazine n thought it looked badass. give my stang a whole new look, set it apart from others, plus BBK seems to be a good name to go by but after readin what everyone's been saying and taking a glance @ the price tag, i'll just have to look elsewhere

I just wrote a "nasty gram" to the 5.0 Mailbag for insulting our intelligence with this intake "test". The Edelbrock Performer RPM heads on this test vehicle skew the testing way off. They should have done the intake comparison on a stock vehicle, not one with a mismatched H/C/I. Better yet, compared the BBK SSI intake to it's actual competitors on an already well-tuned combo like a NMRA Pure Street car. Let's see how it does compared to an Edelbrock Performer RPM II, TFS Track Heat, etc. Let BBK back up their claims of 12% better flow than it's competitors.

As is, it discredits 5.0 Magazine, BBK, not to mention insults our intelligence and stinks of marketing fallacies. They really need to have stricter guidelines for test vehicles, engines, as well as methods.

Part of the elevated price on this intake is due to the fact that you get a set of $200 fuel rails with it.

Read the article again guys - it's totally bogus. They take a "real" 306 Cobra with RPM heads, stock cam, ProM, long tubes, smog pump eliminator and electric fans and put a 5.0 stock intake on it. Then they put the BBK on it and talk about the great gains - *ullshat!

Lets see em use a Performer, RPM, Street Heat,Track Heat, etc in the comparison test and then we'd get the REAL picture.

I couldn't agree more. I had to read the article twice to figure out what exactly was going on. What an absolute joke. I'm sure the 5.0 Mustang magazine is making a good bit of money in advertising BBK's products, but to me they lost a LOT of credibility printing an article like that; looked to me like a poor attempt at polishing up a turd of a product to continue getting BBK's advertising $$$. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of disappointed people that lay down $560 for one of those intakes and end up very unhappy.

I'd like to see MM&FF do a an intake shootout kind of like they did with the cylinder heads on either a stock or mildly modified engine; keeping the same test engine for all intakes. A test like that would cut through the BS very quickly.

Be smart with your money people!!!!!!!

That number was taken at like 5700 rpm; after the stock intake had begun choking 700 rpm before. It's actually kind of sad the BBK couldn't have made a bigger gap considering it was with performer heads.

Seems like a good intake. I'd like to hear people's opinions on it after actually putting it on their car. $569 isn't bad at all with new fuel rails.

Ok I take that back. Some of you guys have a very keen eye. I didn't notice that the test car had aftermarket heads on it, and I also didn't realize they started with a HO intake on a cobra. Those bastards. I'm definitely going with a performer or TFS intake when I get around to it. Screw BBK. I'm sure it's a decent intake but the edelbrock will do just fine for much cheaper.

can someone give me a prediction of how much actual rwhp you get from adding a new intake manifold such as the edelbrock performer on a stock car, it says you get gains up to 40hp but i kinda have to doubt it...

That sounds about right. Without a larger tb & spacer, 15 h/p would be close to normal.

Intakes are sold on "peak" numbers. What you should really be looking for is data on how much AVERAGE power and intake makes over the usable rpm band. Which one gets more area under the curve............the curve you'll be using most.

If you look at the article and digest the info for what it's worth, you will see that this intake does two things.

1.) It maintains low end power production (both hp and torque). This is importent for the street.

2.) It makes more power over the entire operating range while at the same time extending the operating range available to the driver for the given combination. This is importent for the guy that goes to the track.

The target customer drives on the street so the low end power preservation is good. Most of those target customers also go to the track (drag or road) and the intake looks to add performance there too.

The intake is good. It looks different because form follows function. I bet with a power adder it is a beast of an intake.
